Abahani Limited suffered their fourth defeat in the AFF Cup competition when they went down to Maziya Sporting and Recreation Club of Maldives by 2-0 yesterday.
It was successive defeat for Abahani Limited at the hands of Maldives side as they were also beaten in home match in Dhaka.
The Bangladesh champions, who broke their winning drought after three consecutive defeats with a laudable victory over one of the top favourites Bangalore of India in the previous match and tipped off to bounce back, but failed to keep up the momentum.
The home team after getting rid of early scares of the second half, put the visitors under pressure and took the lead on 59th minute from a set piece when Mohammed Umaya’s shot found the net (1-0) and Alexander doubled the advantage on 85th minute to seal the victory (2-0).
Abahani had the last chance to reduce one in the injury time but Emeka took his header on Waly Faisal’s free kick over the bar.
