China Telecom launches 100G Asia-Europe terrestrial cable
China Telecom Global (CTG) has launched the first 100G terrestrial cable service between Asia and Europe, reports Telecom Asia.
The new 100G capability is strengthened by cross-border transmission systems via the China-Russia, China-Mongolia-Russia and China-Kazakhstan-Russia routes, and will be managed by CTGs Russian Partners.
The new capability comes on the back of the Super TSR (Transit Silk Road) ultra-low latency terrestrial route via the China-Kazakhstan gateway.
The Super TSR launched in 2H16 with a latency of just 147ms from Shanghai to Frankfurt and 159ms from Hong Kong to Frankfurt a 10ms reduction over existing routes.
According to Steve Tan, vice president of CTGs global carrier business, China Telecom has devoted tremendous efforts in the diversification of Asia-Europe terrestrial cable routes, so as to improve the information exchange efficiency from Asia to Europe, and to fulfill customer expectations for alternative backup routes to regular submarine cable solutions.
Both new initiatives mesh with CTGs goal of supporting Chinas Belt and Road initiative to improve the free flow of cross-border trade and create a regional economic co-operation framework.
Improving the latency and capacity of connectivity between Asian and European business centers will be a key component of this initiative.
