Workshop on marine ecosystem begins at DU
A three-day workshop titled 'Sustainable Management of Marine Ecosystem and Acidification Monitoring' began at the seminar room of Center for Advance Research in Sciences on Dhaka University (DU) campus on Tuesday.
DU Oceanography Department organised the workshop for the officials of the Department of Environment (DoE). DU Vice-Chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique chaired the inaugural function of the workshop, said a press release.
Moderated by the Oceanography Department Chairman Professor Dr Md Kawser Ahmed, the inaugural function was attended by DoE Director General Md Raisul Alam Mondal and DU Earth and Environmental Sciences Faculty Dean Prof ASM Maksud Kamal, among others. Along with DoE officials, DU teachers and representatives from various environmental organizations are taking part in the workshop.
Discussions and practical trainings will be held on coastal morphology, blue economy and the Bay of Bengal, energy and mineral resources of the Bay of Bengal, coastal hazards, coastal pollution in Bangladesh and ocean acidification in the three-day workshop.
Challenges of int’l students in Bangladesh discussed
Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) organised a roundtable titled ‘The Prospects and Challenges of International Students in Bangladesh’ on IUB campus at Bashundhara in the capital on Tuesday, says a press release.
High commissioners and their representatives from Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Iraq, Philippines, Canada and Afghanistan high commissions and embassies were present at the discussion. Rashed Chowdhury, chairman of IUB board of trustees, highlighted the features and facilities at IUB to ensure high quality education for its students.
Recognising the contribution of the private universities to the higher education in Bangladesh, University Grants Commission chairman professor Abdul Mannan mentioned various initiatives taken by UGC to promote higher education. He also emphasized on ensuring accommodation facilities, international desk and foreign faculties to make Bangladesh attractive to the international students.
Representatives from law and security enforcing agencies gave assurance of providing all out supports for the international students who are interested to do their higher education in Bangladesh. They informed that Visa processing for the foreign students has been made easy and they are very prompt to address any security related problems of the international students.
Daylong ICT career camp held at RU
RAJSHAHI: A daylong Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Career Camp-2017 was held on Rajshahi University (RU) campus yesterday.
The slogan of the event was ‘Digital Bangladesh e Amra Durbar’ (We Are Unstoppable in Digital Bangladesh). Digital Bangladesh and Bangladesh Computer Council under the ICT Division arranged the daylong event in association with World Bank's Leveraging ICT for Growth, Employment and Governance Project. The objectives of the camp were to inspire degree-level students and provide them with ICT-related trainings, including outsourcing, so that they could earn money along with academic studies.
RU Vice-Chancellor Prof Abdus Sobhan inaugurated the camp as the chief guest. Director of ICT Centre Professor Khademul Islam Mollah and Students' Adviser Prof Mijanur Rahman, among others, spoke on the occasion. While speaking at the function, Prof Abdus Sobhan urged the students to take the training with enthusiasm to attain cherished goal of the project. The VC added that the government was implementing the programme across the country to create opportunities for students so that they could earn foreign currency through online outsourcing.
Over 1,000 students of the public university joined the daylong camp spontaneously.
India keen to support RU
RAJSHAHI: Indian Government is interested to extend support in education, research and cultural activities of Rajshahi University (RU).
Assistant Indian High Commissioner in Rajshahi Abhijit Chattapadhaya made this observation while on a courtesy call with RU Vice-chancellor Prof Abdus Sobhan at latter's office here yesterday.
Appreciating the proposal Prof Sobhan expected that the existing bilateral relation between Bangladesh and India will be furthermore improved and intensified for welfare of both the countries through such type of cooperation in the days ahead. He said people to people connection of the two countries should be enhanced for better understanding, bilateral relations and regional communications for economic prosperity. Not only tourism, the relations may be improved through cultural, sports and other arenas.
