LGRD Minister Khandakar Mosharraf Hossain on Wednesday said that the construction work of Mouchak portion of much awaited Moghbazar-Mouchak flyover will be ended before the upcoming Eid festival, reports UNB.
“The opening of the full flyover will ease traffic congestions in the busy area,” said the minister after inaugurating another part of the flyover.
The minister opened the 450-meter section of the flyover connecting Hatirjheel to Sonargaon intersection to traffic around 10:15am.
Bangladesh Government, Saudi Fund for Development (SFD), and OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) are jointly financing the project.
On March 30 last, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina opened the first part, also stretching two-km from Saatrasta intersection up to Shaheed Captain Mansur Ali Avenue (Moghbazar), of the 8.7km Mouchak-Moghbazar Flyover.
Another part of the flyover stretching two-km from Janakantha building to near Aarong (Mouchak) was opened to traffic on September 15 last to ease traffic congestions on Eskaton-Mouchak road further.
In January 2016, the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) approved the revision of the Moghbazar-Mouchak Flyover Project with an extension of 18 months and increased cost of Tk 446.20 crore, raising the overall project cost to Tk 1218.9 crore.
The project work, which was scheduled to be completed within December 2015, started in 2013 instead of the original schedule of 2011.
