Road crash kills two drivers

Two truck drivers were killed and two others injured as their vehicles collided head-on in Najirpara area under Boda upazila of the district yesterday morning.
The deceased are Alam Miah, 40, an inhabitant of Mokamtala-Alamchandrapur in Bogra and M Musa, 50, a resident of Shailakupa in Jhenaidah district.
Officer-in-Charge of Boda Police Station Nurul Islam said the two trucks collided head-on in the area at about 10 am, leaving the drivers dead on the spot and two helpers injured.
The injured were sent to Boda Upazila Health Complex.
Man to die for killing wife

A court in Jessore yesterday sentenced a man to death for killing his wife five years back.
The court also fined Abdullah, son of Ayub Ali, a resident of Sultanpur-Babupara village in Sadar upzila, Taka one lakh.
Woman and Child Repression Control Tribunal Judge Amit Kumar Dey pronounced the verdict.
According to the prosecution, Abdullah set fire to his wife Salma’s body after pouring cerosine on July 9, 2012 as she refused to bring money (as dowry) from her parental house. Later she died, said public prosecutor Advocate Idris Ali.
Then, victim’s father filed a murder case against him. After investigation, police submitted charge-sheet against Abdullah.
The judge announced the verdict examining the witnesses and evidences.
Man killed over land dispute
Sherpur: A man was killed in a land related dispute at Nolbari Kandapara village of Sadar upazila on Tuesday afternoon, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Motiur Rahman, 65, son of Hossain Ali, a resident of the village.
Md Nazrul Islam, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, said that there had been a long standing dispute between Motiur and his cousin Maidan Ali over a piece of land.
As a sequel to the dispute, they locked into an altercation in the afternoon. At one stage, both groups equipped with lethal weapons attacked each other, leaving Motiur dead on the spot. On information, police rushed to the spot and recovered the body.
9 held with 25,000 yaba tablets
Benapole: Detectives in drives arrested nine alleged drug peddlers and recovered 25,000 pieces of Yaba tablets and two kilograms of hemp from separate places of the district town on Tuesday night, reports UNB.
The arrestees were identified as Nurjahan, 35, Roky, 25, Saidur, 34, Faruk, 32, Rubel, 30, Tariqul, 27, Rupom, 30, Shimul, 28, and Abdur Rashid, 32,
Imaul Haque, officer-in-charge of Detective Branch of Jessore police, said that a total of 20 teams of DB conducted drives in 88 spots and arrested them along with the Yaba tablets and hemp.
34 arrested in Satkhira
SATKHIRA: Police, in special drives from Tuesday night to this morning, arrested 34 persons and recovered 25 pieces of Yaba tablets from eight upazilas of the district, reports BSS.
District police officials said they were picked up from different areas of the district.
During the drives, Satkhira Sadar police arrested 11 persons, Kalaroa police five including one drug trader with 25 pieces of Yaba tablets, Tala Thana Police five, Kaliganj police three, Shyamnagar police three, Assasuni police three, Patkelghata Thana police two and Debhata Thana police arrested two accused.
Several cases, including charges of subversive activities, are pending with different police stations against the arrested persons.
