Boy burned to death in Ctg   
A boy was burned to death and two people sustained injuries as a fire broke out at Eochia in Chittagong early Tuesday. Jasim Uddin, deputy director of Chittagong Fire Service, said that the fire broke out at the house of Sayed Miah around 3:30am from an electric short circuit and soon engulfed the adjoining three other houses. On information, a fire fighting team brought the fire under control after an hour of frantic efforts. They recovered charred body of Sayed Miah’ son Saidul, 10, from the house.

Youth electrocuted
A youth died of electrocution in Patharghata brick field road area under Kotwali Thana of the port city Chittagong in the small hours of Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Md Rasel, 23, son of Amir Hossain, hailing from Patiya upazila. Rasel along with his family members used to live in Patharghata brick field road area. Jasim Uddin, officer-in-charge of Kotwali police Station, said that Rasel had a small grocer’s shop by the road. Following complain of a neighbour, police came to the area to evict Rasel’s shop on Monday night.

One held with 516 bombs
Police arrested a person along with 516 crude bombs from Gandaria in the old city of the capital on Sunday night. A squad of Gandaria Police Station arrested Rubel, 31, in a raid conducted on Alamganj Truck Stand around 9.30 pm on Sunday and seized 516 crude bombs from his possession, an official release said. A case was lodged with Gandaria Police Station to this end.

Memorial lecture held
 International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b ) arranged an annual memorial lecture on its former associate director Dr M Mujibur Rahaman on Monday. Dr Rahaman, one of the founding fathers of icddr,b, is fondly remembered for his contributions to the institute and during the Bangladesh’s War of Liberation. Prof. Dr Syed Modasser Ali, former advisor to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and chairman of Bangladesh Medical Research Council (BMRC), delivered the memorial lecture this year. During the event, icddr,b’s Executive Director Dr John D Clemens welcomed the audience, saying, “Dr Rahaman was one of the icons of icddr,b. He conducted research which was very much ahead of its time.”

17 arrested in Khulna
Khulna police have arrested 16,457 people, including 17 ‘militants’, from 10 districts in Khulna division in last 45 days. The law enforcers also seized a large stash of arms, ammunition and abusive drugs from their possessions. Assistant Police Super and also Staff Officer of Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Khulna Range Md Hafizur Rahman today said the drives began on April 2 after the joining of Md Didar Ahmed as DIG.  He said the drives would be continued aimed at curbing militancy, terrorism and unsocial activities to make society free from illegal arms and drugs.

BRPA confce concludes
The Rural Medical Practitioners (RMP), widely known as 'Polli Chikitshok', have committed to make the government's health services programme successful by reaching primary health services at the doorsteps of rural people. They made the commitment at concluding ceremony of the divisional representatives' conference of Bangladesh Rural Practitioners' Association (BRPA) held at Shilpokola Academy auditorium in Rangpur city on Monday evening.

More community clinics planned
The government has taken an initiative to set up more than a thousand - 1029 to be precise - community clinics across the country, besides renovating some 2,000 existing ones. This was announced at a meeting held at the Secretariat with Health Minister Mohammad Nasim in the chair on Monday, said a PID handout. The meeting was held to place community clinic model and activities of Health Engineering Department (HED). The Health Minister said the success of Bangladesh’s community clinic model brightened the country’s image in the international arena as the model has gone on to be adapted by other developing nations.
