Classical music evening at Chhayanaut tomorrow

Dr Asit Roy, Associate Professor and Chairman, Department of Music, Rajshahi University, and his troupe Soroj Poncham will come up with a performance of Dhrupad at a musical programme titled Praner Khela. Organised by Bengal Foundation, the event will be held tomorrow at the Chhayanaut auditorium in the capitals Dhanmondi area.
Dr Asit Roy is a distinguished vocalist from Bangladesh. He initially trained under his father, Janardan Roya sitar player and mother, Usha Rani Roya vocalist. He continued his training under the guidance of Tapan Kumar Chakraborty, Paresh Bhattacharya and Gopal Dutta in Bangladesh; and trained in Khyal from Pandit Amiyaranjan Bandyopaddhyay and Pandit Jagdish Prasad. Dr. Roy is currently studying Dhurpad under the guidance of renowned Dhrupadia of the Dagar Gharana, Kaberi Kar. He is a regular artist of Bangladesh Betar and Bangladesh Television, and is the Chairperson in the Department of Theatre and Music of Rajshahi University.
In the second part of the programme, flutist Murtaza Kabir Murad and his troupe Arohi will play flute to enchant the audience.
Murtaza Kabir Murad has written the first and the only flute learning book Shahaj Bashi Sheekkhya in Bangladesh. Murads flutes are not only on high demand in Bangladesh but also in abroad. Besides playing flute professionally, Murad teaches flute to many students in Bangladesh and abroad. Murad basically performs in solo for classical music on flute. He played flute in Bengal Classical Music Festival 2012, Chhayanaut Classcial Music Conference 2014 and in many other noted classical music festivals. He is also a veteran Shanai player and table player. He worked as a Teacher of Tabla in the Classical Music Department of Bulbul Lalita Kala Academy (BAFA) for a long time. Presently he is working as a teacher in the Flute department at Chhayanaut.
