Taijul aims to open innings
He is determined to get back his place in one-day team

Left-arm spinner Taijul Islam on Tuesday said that he is eying to consolidate his place in one-day squad and seeks to serve Bangladesh for the next 10 years.
Taijul kept his footstep in international arena with Test in September, 2014 and stunned all by grabbing five wickets of West Indies with magic spell on debut.
Since then, he played 13 Tests coupled with four one-day internationals so far for the national fold. But he could not consolidate his place in one-day squad what he did in Test.
“Of course, I miss one day internationals. I dropped from the one-day squad after getting chance. It is not hardship. Such moment may come to a player’s life. But I miss it,” said Taijul Islam.
“Those who have been playing or play for the national team are not less capable than others. Some are successful as batsman and some are bowlers. Actually it is a big matter of becoming successful. It may be that such success has not come by me. So, I lag behind. Next time I have to perform better further. It may be that I am not ready for that. I want to go that place by doing better. I want to go there in such way so that I don’t drop,” he told media before the onset of their pre-match day training at the BCB-National Cricket Academy yesterday.
“I think the performance I showcased in the last four matches was not good enough for the team. For this, I have dropped from the one-day squad. When I will break into the squad I will try my possible best so that I could give my service for the next ten more years,” he added.
Recently Taijul in solo efforts won matches for his club’s team in the ongoing Dhaka Premier League (DPL) though it is not new thing for the spinner.
“Actually I could not work in that way. While I used to play in Under-15, I was a batsman. I lost myself as a batsman from when I start concentrating more on my bowling,” Taijul said.
“When I used to play for Orient I won matches by batting. Even when I played for Prime Doleshwar I also won matches by batting. Last year I won match when we needed just four runs to triumph the match,” Islam told.
“The opportunity is not always come in that way. I got another chance while I scored 14 from 47 deliveries. That was a Test-like batting. Fortunately we won that match,” he added.
Being inspired by West Indian spinner Sunil Narine, who opened for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in IPL and succeeded in his efforts, he said that you all get to see a new Taijul after six months or one year.
“Sunil Narine’s batting inspires me. He has been given to open for KKR and became successful. He made good success. It will inspire all like me,” he told in response to query.
This year the spinner plied his trade in DPL for Mohammedan Sporting Club, who bounced back in competition for the next phase of Super League. The team placed fifth in point-table with 12 points off nine round games.
They have two more games in hand with Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club and Brothers Union. The 25-year-old spinner said that they want to confirmed their super league phase by winning both matches.
“We have left two matches ahead. Both batsmen and bowlers are performing well. Unfortunately we lost the match against Abahani though we went to close to wining situation,” Taijul thought.
“It’s good thing that our batsmen returned to runs. Hopefully we could be able to confirm our super league phase by playing better cricket in the remaining two matches,” he told.
