Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra made a bright start in the Walton Federation Cup Football outplaying Farashganj Sporting Club by 3-0 yesterday at the Bangabandhu National Stadium.
Dawda Seesay, Arup Baiddaya and Aminul Islam Sojib scored one goal each to steer Russel to a winning start in the season’s opening match.
Russel, who began the match with offensive approach right from the kick off and put Farashganj under immense pressure, opened some good scoring chances at the early stage but had to wait for breakthrough for half an hour.
The last season’s strugglers Russel was looked fully a different side with different characteristics played disciplined passing football, as they played the match with full authority in the 90 minutes game.
However, Russel, the first time treble winners in the professional arena in Bangladesh, could have taken two goals lead inside eight minutes after first whistle but the forwards failed to turn any of two consecutive close chances into goal.
Most of attacks of Russel were built up down the right side with Arup Baiddya was overlapping very often when the veteran right winger set series of crosses inside the box, were turned into danger.
Russel could have taken clear lead inside within 10 minutes but three consecutive chances went in vain when forwards failed to avail the opportunities produced with Arup Baiddya and Sojib released some terrible passes inside the area.
The traditional All Blues, played with red jersey on the day, opened the scoring on 32nd minute through Dawda Ceesay when the tall man from Gambia succeeded to convert his third attempt after misfiring first two efforts.
This time Aminur Rhamna Sojib chopped down a cross inside the area from outside the box and Dawda Seesay was very sharp to receive the ball before placing it into far post giving the goalkeeper no chance even to try (1-0).
To increasing the margin Russel became more offensive and took seven minutes to double the lead when Arup Baiddya scored a sensational goal when he entered into box with superb one to one exchanges with Sojib and finished it with a placing shot beyond the keepers range on 39th (2-0).
Russel keeping the drive to increase the tally and got the third on 53rd minute when Aminul Islam Sojib closely shot past the Farashganj custodian Borhan Uddin on a cut back of Dawda Seesay (3-0).
