Recover railway lands leased out without auction: JS body

UNB

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Railways Ministry yesterday recommended the government to take legal steps to recover all the railway lands leased out without auction, reports UNB. The committee came up with the suggestion at its 33rd meeting held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban with its chairman ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury in the chair.
“We’ve asked the government to take legal steps to recover the railway lands leased out illegally. We’ve also asked for cancelling lease agreements in case of violation of conditions by the concerned lessees,” said Mohammad Noman, MP, a member of the committee who attended the meeting. The parliamentary committee also recommended preserving the erstwhile European Club Bhaban and the armoury at Pahartoli in Chittagong that bear the memories of anti-British revolutionary leaders Pritilata Waddedar and Master Da Surya Sen, as historical heritages. At the meeting, the Railways Ministry informed the committee members that the number of couches of trains has been increased, while a greater number of freight trains is operated with a view to boosting the railway’s revenue.
