Man to die for killing wife

 A court in Laxmipur yesterday sentenced a man to death for killing his wife five years back.
The court also fined Monir Hossain, a resident of Paschim Sheikhpur village in Ramganj upazila of the district, Tk one lakh.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Saidur Rahman Gazi, who is also the judge of Woman and Child Repression Control Tribunal, pronounced the verdict against Monir.
According to the prosecution, Monir strangulated his wife Kusum Akhter to death on November 17, 2012 as she refused to bring money from her parental house.
Then, victim’s father Jamal Miah filed a murder case with Ramganj police station against him.
After investigation, police submitted charge-sheet against him on April 20, 2013.
The judge announced the verdict examining 10 witnesses and evidences.
1.40 lakh yaba tablets seized
Cox’sBazar: Police recovered 1.40 lakh pieces of yaba tablets worth Tk 4.20 crore from Rangikhali village in Teknaf upazila on Monday, reports UNB.
Officer-in-charge of Teknaf Model Police Station Main Uddin Khan said being tipped off that a consignment of yaba was kept buried under soil in a chili field in the village police launched drive and recovered the yaba tablets.
War crimes accused held

Police arrested a man for his alleged involvement in crimes against humanity committed during the Liberation War in 1971.
Confirming the arrest, Sheikh Motiar Rahman, officer-in-charge of Bagherpara Police Station, said they held Amzad from his home at Premchara area of Bagherpara upazila on Monday night.
Two war crime cases were filed in Jessore and Magura courts against Amzad Mollah and his accomplices.
Roof collapse kills man
Gaibandha: A man was killed as tin-shed roof of a house collapsed on him during storm at Khukshia village in Gobindaganj upazila on Monday night, reports UNB.
Abdul Kader, chairman of Nakai union parishad, said that the tin-shed roof of the house of Mujibur Rahman, 33, son of Tofazzal Hossain, collapsed on him during storm while he was sleeping around 9:30pm, leaving him dead on the spot.
Mother, daughter crushed under train in Natore
Natore: A woman and her minor daughter were crushed under the wheels of a train at Hugolbaria near Natore Rail Station here yesterday, reports UNB.
Station Master Maniruzzaman said a Khulna-bound inter-city train from Chilahati hit the unidentified woman and her daughter while walking near the rail tack around 1:30 pm, leaving them dead on the spot.
On information, railway police recovered the bodies and sent those to local hospital morgue for autopsy.
Man sued on charge of attempting to rape child
Benapole: A case has been filed against a man on charge of attempting to rape a six-year-old girl child in Monirampur upazila Monday night, reports UNB.
Mokarram Hossain, officer-in-charge of Monirampur Police Station, said that the case has been filed against Mohammad Ali Morol, 50, resident of Galda village of the upazila.
Sub-inspector Iqbal, investigation officer (IO) of the case, Mohammad Ali attempted to rape the Class-II student of a local primary school finding her alone at a mango orchard of one Abidur Rahman of the village in the afternoon. But he fled the scene as the girl screamed, he added.
“Both the parties were trying to settle the matter secretly but they couldn’t as many people came to know about it,” SI Iqbal said. Later, the father of the girl child filed a lawsuit with Monirampur Police Station against Mohammad Ali Morol at night, OC Mokarram Hossain said.
