The Chapainawabganj police conducted operations at different places of the district from Wednesday night till yesterday (Friday) morning and arrested seven members of the banned Islamic militant outfit Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB). They also seized 52.5 kg of power gel, 4.5 kg of gunpowder and 22 jihadi books.
TM Mojahidul Islam, superintendent of police (SP) in Chapainawabganj, said this at a press briefing yesterday afternoon. The arrested persons were identified as Harun-Or-Rashid, 25, son of Taifur Rahman of Guthoil village, Kamal Uddin, 32, son of Mostofa of the same village, Nasim Reza Shahin, 20, son of Ismail Hossain of Berachoki village, and Firoj, 22, son of Ketabul Islam of Shreerampur village in Nachole upazila, Babu, 22, son of Eslam of Shibnagar Kaithapara village, Azizul Hoque, 38, son of Nesh Mohammad of Raghabpur village in Shibganj upazila, and Abdul Hakim, 20, son of Md. Guthu of Debinagar Fatapara village in Chapainawabganj Sadar upazila.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team raided different places in Nachole upazila on Wednesday night and first arrested
Harun. Later, according to information provided by Harun, the police arrested Kamal, Nasim and Firoj from their hideouts.
Acting on the same information, the police surrounded a militant den at Matikata village in Godagari upazila of Rajshahi district. The police team then asked the Rajshahi police to take over the operation, said TM Mojahidul Islam.
The cops raided the house of Babu at Shibnagar Kaithapara village in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj district early on Thursday and seized 52.5 kg of explosive power gel and 4.5 kg of gunpowder kept in a drum underground, he added.
Later, the police team conducted drives at Raghabpur in Shibganj upazila and Fatapara in Sadar upazila. It arrested Azizul and Abdul Hakim on Thursday and Friday, respectively, but could not arrest another JMB member, Khairul, brother of Abdul Hakim.
