Indira Gandhi Culture Centre (IGCC) is organising an evening of Nazrul Sangeet by Dr Pradip Kumar Nandi and Rabindra Sangeet by Joyanta Acharjee at Kobi Sufia Kamal auditorium of Bangladesh National Museum Shahbagh in the capital today. IGCC has organised the programme as a part of the celebration of birth anniversaries of Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam. Dr Pradip Kumar Nandi got his Master’s degree in Music with specialization in Nazrul Sangeet from the Department of Music, University of Dhaka with distinction (first class first) in 2000. He has also completed a four-year certificate course in Nazrul Sangeet from Bulbul Academy of Fine Arts and got training in Chhayanaut also. He did his PhD on ‘Nazrul-er Gaan:Shurokar Proshongo’ from Rajshahi University. He has also trained in music under prominent singers from Bangladesh and India such as Mr. Sudhin Das, Ms. Nilufar Yasmin, Khairul Anam Shakil, Khalid Hossain and Shri Biman Mukhopadhyay. Dr Nandi was gold medalist in classical music category in the National Education Week in 1997 and 1998. He is a regular performer and enlisted artist of Bangladesh TV and Radio, as also of private television channels. His two solo albums have been released by Laser Vision, Dhaka. He has also written two books on Kazi Nazrul Islam He is the Head of the Department of Music at the Shanto Marium University of Creative Technology in Dhaka and also a part-time teacher of Nazrul Sangeet at Government Music College, Agargaon and Bulbul Academy of Fine Arts.
Joyanta Acharjee has done his Masters in Music from Dhaka University and is presently doing his M. Phil there. He has also done 6 years certificate course in Rabindra Sangeet from Surer Dhara under the guidance of Rezwana Chowdhury Bannya. He has obtained top position in Tagore and Nazrul songs in Education week in 2000, top position in Tagore and Folk songs in Dhaka University Cultural Competition 2006, top position in Jagannath Hall Cultural Competition, top position in the Inter Universities competition 2008. He received scholarships for outstanding performance during his academic period at Surer Dhara.
He is an enlisted artist of Rabindrasangeet at BTV, Bangladesh Betar and Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. He has also performed in private TV channels in Bangladesh and Tara TV channel in India. He has released two albums namely ‘Alor Amol Kamolkhani’, Shureri Tori and one mixed album‘Shruti Geetbitan’. He is teaching in Shurer Dhara and is also Lecturer in University Laboratory School and College.
