RAJSHAHI: Speakers at a public gathering here have resolved that cordial relations between police and public in general can be vital means of freeing the society from all sorts of crimes like militancy, fundamentalism, terror-attacks and drugs-abusing, reports BSS. They viewed all-out support from the community is very important to free the society from the social crimes as police alone cannot attain the same.
They were addressing an open house day and anti-militancy meeting on Katakhali Maskatadighi Technical School and College playground in the city on Thursday afternoon. Motiher Police Station under Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) organised the meeting to discuss and devise ways and means on how to combat the crimes with police-public collective efforts. On the occasion, 14 drug-traders were rehabilitated with rickshaw-van, sewing machines and cash money. They returned to normal life with a promise of not getting involved in the heinous act again.
RMP Commissioner Shafiqul Islam and Katakhali Pourasabha Mayor Abbas Ali addressed the meeting as chief and special guests respectively with RMP Deputy Commissioner (East) Amir Jafar in the chair. RMP Additional Deputy Commissioners Abdur Rashid and Shirin Akter also spoke. RMP Commissioner Shafiqul Islam said the community people should extend cooperation to the police with specific information about the criminals. The community people know well about location of the criminals, drug traffickers and traders and the police need the information from the citizens for taking legal action against them.
