On the occasion of the 156th birth anniversary of Nobel Laureate Poet Rabindranath Tagore, Channel i organised a fair titled ‘Robi Channel i Rabindra Mela’ on its premises in the capital’s Tejgaon area on May 8. This year, Rabindra Sangget singer Mita Haque was bestowed with lifetime achievement award for her contribution in the field of Rabindra Sangeet, while Professor Sanad Kumar Shaha was honoured for his contribution towards practicing Tagore literature.
Managing director of Channel i Faridur Reza Sagor, noted journalist Kamal Lohani, cultural personalities Ataur Rahman, Mamunur Rashid, singer Rezwana Choudhury Bannya, Managing Director and CEO of Robi Axiata Limited Mahtab Uddin Ahmed, CEO of NRB ME Chowdhury handed over uttorio (celebratory scarf), crest and cheque worth of taka 50000 to the award recipients, but due to a personal reason Sanad Kumar Shaha was not present at the event.
After receiving award, Mita Haque said, “Right this moment, I cannot express any formal reaction, but my earnest request to the young generation that practicing Rabindra Sangeet should not be reduced.”
Beginning from 4pm, this year’s Rabindra Mela featured performances of Rabindra Sangeet by young and veteran singers, Rabindra dance-drama, children’s dance, reciting Tagore poems, reading out his essays and drawing on Rabindranath. In addition, about 25 stalls of small and handicraft industries were installed at the fair premises. During the opening ceremony of the programme, noted thespians Ataur Rahman, Mamunur Rashid, Iqbal Bahar Chowdhury, singer Rezwana Choudhury Bannya artist Abdul Mannan, among others, were present.
Eminent Rabindra Sangeet singers Rezwana Choudhury Bannya, Sadi Mohammad, Lily Islam, Shama Rahman, Anima Ray and others rendered songs at the programme, while Iqbal Bahar Chowdhury and Shami Ashraf Chowdhury recited poems. Besides Rezwana Choudhury Bannya’s Rabindra Sangeet CD ‘Borshar Gaan’, London expatriate Imtiaz Ahmed’s ‘Nivrite Praner Gaan’ and US expatriate Bidisha Dewanji’s ‘Esho He Anandomoy’ were released at the fair.
