Dhaka, Doha sign deal on central banks’ cooperation

Bangladesh and Qatar have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation between Bangladesh Bank and Qatar Central Bank.

Foreign minister Abdul Hassan Mahmood Ali and Qatar Central governor Bank Sheikh Abdulla Bin Saoud Al-Thani signed the deal on Monday in Doha on behalf of the respective governments, a foreign ministry press release said yesterday, without providing details of the deal.   
The meeting regarding cooperation of the two Central Banks between the foreign minister and the governor was described as fruitful talks. 
Minister Ali intimated the ongoing projects in Bangladesh and elaborated the policy of regional connectivity and economic integration adhered by Bangladesh. 
Governor of Qatar Central Bank proposed to send a delegation to discuss the ways and means of cooperation between the two Central Banks under the purview of this MoU. Foreign Minister Ali hoped that Governor of Bangladesh Bank may also visit Qatar to further deepen this cooperation.
The Foreign Minister also called on 
the Chief Executive Officer of the 
Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) Sheikh Abdullah Bin Mohammed Bin Saud Al Thani at the QIA Headquarters. QIA is the single authority, which decides on Qatari investments abroad. 
Foreign Minister Ali briefed on the ongoing development activities in the country.
The QIA CEO appreciated Bangladesh’s remarkable progress and expressed willingness to invest in LNG, power generation, in the Special Economic Zones (SEZs) and other infrastructural development projects in Bangladesh. 
Ali informed that a high powered delegation from Bangladesh would visit Qatar to discuss on the possible areas of economic and development cooperation with Qatar in the sideline of the 17th Doha Economic Forum to be held from May 14 – 15.
He later called on the Vice Chairman of the Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industries Mohamed bin Ahmed bin Twar. 
At the outset praising the workers from Bangladesh the Vice Chairman stressed on the need to have skilled and professional work force from Bangladesh in Qatar. 
Foreign Minister Ali expressed Bangladesh’s readiness to engage with Qatari Government to set up a mechanism for recruitment, while he proposed establishing training center for Qatar bound workers of Bangladesh with the assistance of Government of Qatar.
