12 gold bars seized at Ctg airport
Customs Intelligence officials on Tuesday arrested a man along with 12 gold bars worth Tk 65 lakh from Shah Amanat International Airport.
Mohammad Belal, 37, hailing from Nazirhat in Chittagong, arrived at the airport from Dubai by a flight of Air-Arabia in the morning. Tipped off, a team of customs intelligence challenged Belal while crossing the green channel around 10 am, said Pranaoy Chakma, assistant director of Customs intelligence department. cLater, the customs official recovered the gold bars he concealed in his rectum.
School boy crushed under truck
A school boy was killed as a rashly-driven truck hit his bicycle on Khulna-Jessore road in Fulbari area of the city on Tuesday morning.
The deceased was identified as Mostafizur Rahman Bablu, 14, son of jute mill worker Fazlur Rahman, a class IX student of Sonali Jute Mill School and resident of the jute mill quarters. Ashraful Alam, officer-in-charge of Khan Jahan Ali Police Station, said that the Jessore-bound truck hit the bi-cycle in front of 'Janata Market' in the area around 9:30am while he was returning home, leaving him dead on the spot. Following the accident, agitated locals vandalised the truck.
Girl commits ‘suicide’ in Uttara
A girl allegedly committed suicide in the capital’s Uttara area on Sunday night as she could not obtain her expected result in the SSC examination this year.
The deceased was identified as Sanjida Islam Nova, 15, daughter of Nazrul Islam of Sector-7 in Uttara. Sub-inspector of Uttara Police Station Saiful Islam said Nova killed herself by hanging from a ceiling fan in her room any time of Sunday night. On information, police recovered the body in the morning and later sent it to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital morgue.
Fish trader killed in road crash
A fish trader was killed in a road accident in capital's Jatrabari area on Monday morning.
Bachchu Mia, sub-inspector of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), said Abul Hossain, 60, son of Abbas Ali of Mithamain upazila in Kishoreganj district, was a fish trader and a resident of Fatullah in Narayanganj district. The accident took place around 10am when a bus hit Abul Hossain from behind while he was getting on another bus with his fish, leaving him critically injured. Later he was taken to DMCH where the doctors declared him dead.
Handicrafts fair begins
A two-day handicrafts goods fair began in Rajshahi yesterday with the main thrust of expansion and popularization of the goods.
Rajshahi Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RWCCI) organized the event vtitled "Boishakhi Ananda Handicrafts Product Fair- 2017" at Rajshahi City Corporation Green Plaza.
In the fair, a spectrum of locally produced handicrafts goods including leather products, jute-made products, processed agricultural products, electrical and electronic goods, clothes, design and fashion wares and other products are being exhibited in around 15 stalls.
Additional Commissioner of Rajshahi Aminul Islam and President of Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industry Md Muniruzzaman addressed the opening session as chief and special guests respectively with RWCCI President Prof Rozety Naznin in the chair.
Police arrest one with yaba in Ctg
Chittagong Metropolitan police yesterday arrested a youth with 2000 pieces of contraband yaba tablets from Textile gate area under Bayezid thana in the city.
The arrested was identified as Mohammad Hossain, 32, son of Solayman, hailed from Ukia Upazila under Cox's Bazar district. Officer-in-charge (OC) of Biyazid police station Mohammad Mohsin said, acting on a tip-off, a team of Biyazid thana police recovered the yaba tablets from Mohammad Hossain after searching his body in the area. A case was filed in this connection, the OC added.
