The city experienced rain with thunderstorms yesterday morning. The rain brought relief to the people at least for a while as a heat wave sweeping across the northern region for some days hit people's life.
According to the Met office, 37.0mm rainfall was recorded in Rajshahi yesterday. However; due to the rainfall the temperature has been decreased at least 5.0 degree Celsius. The highest temperature was recorded on Monday, 36.2 degree Celsius and on Tuesday it was 30.5 degree Celsius.
Meanwhile, this type of behaviour of weather was not seen in many years. However, the Met office said the current nature of the weather is quite normal before the start of the rainy season as per surveys in previous years.
Ashraful Alam, In-Charge of Rajshahi Met office, said there is no reason to be panicked for the current weather. “Normally the rainy season starts in Bangladesh in the first week of June. Before the season, due to monsoon in the Bay of Bengal humidity increases in Bangladesh, especially in the lower layer of biosphere.
As a result; of extreme humidity, sweat does not dry and people feel discomfort”, Alam added.
On the other hand, the rain fall has not only brought relief the people from sweltering heat but also brought hope for the farmers of a good crop. Though they are afraid, if the rain continues for more than couple of days, it would hamper the growth and production of vegetables.
However; on Tuesday, city people failed to taste the sunshine. The sky was over crowded with clouds with intermittent rainfall with thunderstorms.
The water logging at various places of the city is causing huge sufferings to the people. Due to windy breeze, trees of various area of the district were uprooted.
Low lying area of the city like Zia Nagar, Chhoto Bongram, Mollapara, Dingadoba, Tikapara, Seroil and many others areas have been sub-merged due to water logging.
However; many roads of posh area like Rajshahi University, Padma Residential Area, Upasahar, in-front of Rajshahi Medical College, Miapara, Sagarpara area have been drowned to water logging. Due to sufficient rain fall, the ponds, ditches, beels and water bodies also filled with water.
Commuters were seen to wait long time for public transports, while many rickshaw pullers and battery-run auto-rickshaw drivers are charging double fare from the passengers adding much to their sufferings.
