Six including 4 cops injured
in Joypurhat ‘gunfight’
Two suspected robbers sustained bullet wounds while four policemen were injured in a gunfight between police and robbers at Balighata in Panchbibi upazila early yesterday, reports UNB.
Tipped off that a group of dacoits were taking preparation at Balighata to commit robbery, a police team conducted a drive there, said officer in-charge of Panchbibi Police Station Ashraful Islam.
However, sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the robbers opened fire to them, prompting the law enforcers to retaliate when two robbers—Milon and Rafiqul—sustained bullet wounds.
Besides, four policemen, including assistant sub-inspector Hossain Ali, were injured during the drive.
The injured policemen and the robbers were admitted to Joypurhat Modern Hospital.
Police also recovered a foreign pistol and a few local weapons from the spot, said the OC adding, a case has been filed with Panchbibi Police Station in this connection.
4.5 kg gun powder seized

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized 4.5 kg of gun powder from Gaipara village in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj district on Sunday night.
BGB sources said during a regular patrol on the frontier areas, a team of BGB of Fatepur border outpost saw two smugglers coming from the Indian side with luggage around 11:30pm. As BGB chased them, they fled away leaving the luggage.
After searching the luggage BGB found the gun powder.
The seized gun powder was deposited with Shibganj police station.
BGB-BSF flag meeting held
Satkhira: A battalion commander level flag meeting between Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Border Security Force (BSF) of India was held here yesterday, reports UNB.
Lt. Col. Arman Hossain, staff officer of BGB Satkhira Battalion-38, led the 24-member Bangladesh delegation while Narendra Singh, officer of Kalyani Battalion-76 of BSF, led the 20-member delegation of India in the meeting that started at 10am.
The meeting was held in front of Ramsita temple, at the opposite side of Charabari border area in Satkhira.
At the meeting, the border forces of the two neighbouring countries discussed the issues of
smuggling of drugs and human trafficking and ways to curb those.
