Vow to free Kurigram from drug, militancy

RANGPUR: Thousands of people from all walks in the society have vowed to free the district of Kurigram from the curses of drug, militancy and terrorism with the next three months, reports BSS.
They took the vow at a community policing grand rally organised by Kurigram District Coordination Committee of Community Policing and District Police against drug, terrorism and militancy at college ground in Kurigram town on Sunday.Deputy Inspector General for Rangpur Range Khondker Golam Faruk inaugurated the rally and addressed the same as the chief guest with Kurigram Police Super Mehedul Karim in the chair.Kurigram Zila Parisahd Chairman Jafar Ali, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Delwar Hossain, Civil Surgeon Dr Aminul Islam, President of Kurigram district Awami League Aminul Islam Manju Mandal, Municipality Mayor Abdul Jalil and Public Prosecutor Advocate Abraham Lincon addressed as special guests.
President of Kurigram district coordination committee of Community Policing Matlubar Rahman Khan Shafi, its Member-secretary Principal Rasheduzzaman Babu and President of Kurigram Press Club Mominul Islam Manju, addressed, among others.Community Policing members, public representatives, teachers, students, youths, civil society members, socio-cultural and political activists, representatives of different professional organisations, commoners and elite attended the rally.Police Super Mehedul Karim conducted the oath-taking ceremony when thousands of people chanted slogan ‘Police-people are brothers-no place for criminals’ and vowed for freeing Kurigram from drug, terrorism and militancy within next three months.Matlubar Rahman Khan Shafi called upon members of the community policing for engaging spontaneous efforts involving the common people and extending cooperation to the police in preventing drug, terrorism and militancy.The chief guest stressed on bridging the police and common people on mutual trust and confidence to maintain law, order and prevent drug smuggling, abuse and trading and resist militancy and terrorism to ensure peace in the society.“Members of community policing as well as common people should carefully monitor activities of the new comers in their areas and inform police for rooting out the menace of drug abuse, terrorism and militancy from the society,” he said.
He hoped that Kurigram will be a milestone example to become free from drug, terrorism and militancy through coordinated efforts of the common people and police to establish sustainable peace and tranquility in the society.
