Jhut trader found dead 

Police recovered the body of a Jhut (garment leftovers) trader at Auchpara in Gazipur city on Monday morning.
The deceased was identified as Nazrul Islam, 48, hailing from Brahmanbaria district. He used to live in a rented house at Auchpara.
Locals informed police when they get no response from inside the room of Nazrul, said officer-in-charge of Tongi Police Station Firoz Talukdar. 
Nazrul might have been strangulated to death, said the officer-in-charge (OC), adding the body was sent to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital.

4 ‘Ansarullah’ men arrested
A team of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit detained four suspected members of Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) from Motijheel in the capital on Sunday night.
The identities of the detainees could be confirmed immediately. Details of the drive will be briefed later, said deputy commissioner (media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Masudur Rahman.

US embassy holidays
The American Embassy, including the consular section and the American centre, will remain closed on May 10 (Wednesday) and
May 11 (Thursday) in observance of Buddha Purnima and Shab-e-Barat, two Bangladeshi national holidays, said a US embassy release in the capital yesterday.
Emergency services for American citizens will be available and they are requested to call on 5566-2000 and ask for the duty officer, the release added.

Road mishap kills two in Rajshahi
Two youths were killed when two trucks smashed their auto-rickshaw in Talaimary area under Boalia Police Station in Rajshahi city on Sunday noon.
The deceased were identified as Hasib, 20, and Bishal, 21, both of Sadhur More area under the same police station.
Shahadat Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Boalia Police Station, said a sand-laden truck hit an auto-rickshaw making it uncontrolled from behind.
 In the meantime, another truck coming from opposite direction dashed the three-wheeler in the area, leaving its driver Hasib dead on the spot. Passenger Bishal succumbed to his injuries at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.

Lions’  annual convention held
Speaker of Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury on Sunday said Lions, is an international platform, engaged for human services in the world with its own finance.
“Members of the organisation from all classes and professions, are willing to work on humanity, spending their time, money and labour, voluntarily beyond groups and opinions,” she said this, while inaugurating an annual convention, as the chief guest at a city hotel.
Lions Multiple District 315, Bangladesh organized its 30th annual convention-2017.
Chaired by council chairperson Swadesh Ranjan Saha, the programme was also addressed, among others, by Lion Sheikh Kabir Hossain, Lion Nazmul Haque, Lion Kazi Akramuddin Ahmed, Lion Engineer M Abdul Wahab, Lion Moslem Ali Khan and Lion Bashirullah.

Tagore’s birth anniv observed 
The 156th birth anniversary of Bishwaksbi  Rabindranath Tagore was observed in Barisal city on Monday showing deep respect to the great poet of Bengali language and literature. 
Jatiya Rabindra Sangeet Sammilon Parishad, Uddichi, Charukala Barisal and other institutions have organised day-long programmes at Ashwini Kumar Hall, Charukala Art Gallery marking the day. 
The programmes, included reciting songs, poems, dances, dramas, exhibitions on paintings of Tagore, discussion meetings and competitions on creations of the poet, prize giving ceremonies.
Dr Gazi Saifuzzaman, deputy commissioner Barisal, Prof Ziaul Haque, chairman Barisal Education Board, SM Iqbal, president Barisal Sangskritik Sangathan Samanaya Parishad, Dola Gangopadhaya, Advocate Manabendra Batabayal, Nazrul Islam Chunnu, Kajal Ghose, Shamima Masud Munni and other cultural, intellectual activists, addressed the programmes.
