Speakers for spreading innovative ideas among youths
Speakers at a seminar in the capital called for spreading innovative ideas among the youths to ensure effective use of new schemes for the country's development.
“We must adapt, accommodate, and connect to the world to spread innovative activities among the youths of Bangladesh,” said State Minister for Planning and Finance MA Mannan while speaking at the seminar at Dhaka University on Saturday evening, said a press release in the capital yesterday.
DU Innovation and Entrepreneurship (DU ie-Lab), marking its first anniversary, organised the seminar titled “Employability in the age of Fourth Industrial Revolution: Role of Innovative, Creative, and Entrepreneurial (ICE) Thinking”.
Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Country Director in Bangladesh Hyungue Joe attended the seminar as the guest of honor while DU Pro-Vice-chancellor (Academic) Dr Nasreen Ahmad was the inaugural speaker.
Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industries (MCCI) President Nihad Kabir and Executive Project Director of Skills for Employment Investment Programme (SEIP) under Finance Ministry Abdur Rouf Talukder and DU Business Studies Faculty Dean Professor Shibli Rubayat-Ul Islam were present as special guests.
Hyungue Joe said “Responsible innovation and entrepreneurship have a crucial role to play in the successful commercialisation of inventions and technology arising from research and development.”
Managing Director of Apex Footwear Limited Nasim Manzuror presented a keynote paper while Assistant Professor of the DU Organisation Strategy and Leadership Department Rashedur Rahman moderated the seminar.

Norwegian envoy calls on DU VC
Norwegian Ambassador to Bangladesh Sidsel Bleken paid a courtesy call on Dhaka University (DU) Vice-chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique at the latter's office on the campus on Sunday.
Director of DU Scandinavian Study Center Prof. Dr. Sikder Monoare Murshed and Adviser of the Norwegian Embassy in Dhaka Ummee Saila were present at the meeting, said a DU press release here yesterday.
During the meeting, they discussed matters of mutual interests, especially the possibilities of strengthening on-going collaborative academic and research programes between Dhaka University and Norwegian universities.
They stressed the need for the exchange of teachers, students and researchers between DU and universities in Scandinavian countries.
They also discussed the possibilities of holding international academic conference under the joint auspices of Dhaka University and Norwegian universities, the release added.

DU team wins Best New Team award
A student team of Dhaka University (DU) Law Department achieved the ‘Best New Team” award in Philip C Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition held in the USA recently.
The three-member award winning team on Sunday met with DU Vice-chancellor Professor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique at his office on the campus, said DU press release here.
The team members are Ragib Mahtab, Rumana Afroze and Maniruzzaman, LLM students of DU Law Department. Professor of the Department Dr. Nakib Muhammad Nasrullah accompanied the team as the adviser.
Professor Arefin Siddique congratulated the winners for their outstanding achievement.
A total of 143 teams from 89 countries took part in the competition while 36 teams contested for the first time as new teams.

ULAB team attends South Asian Management Forum in Maldives
The University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) delegation attended at three-day long the 14th South Asian Management Forum (SAMF), in the Maldives on April 24, says a press release. 
It was organised by Association of Management Development Institutions in South Asia (AMDISA). AMDISA is a 250-member network of Management Education and Management Development Institutions in South Asia, and a SAARC-recognised body.
The attended team members are: Professor Imran Rahman, Vice-chancellor (Acting), ULAB; Sajid Amit, Director, Centre for Enterprise and Society (CES); and Muhammad Faisol Chowdhury, Assistant Professor ULAB School of Business (USB) & Adviser ULAB Communications. They also presented a paper at the forum.
The theme of the 14th SAMF 2017 was “Governance and Public Policy - Role of Management Development”. 

Ex-JU Professor M Kabir passes away
Former Professor of Statistics Department of Jahangirnagar University (JU) Dr M Kabir passed away on Sunday night at his own residence in the city following prolonged illness.
He was 71, said a JU press release here yesterday.
Professor Kabir left behind wife, two sons and a host of relatives and admirers to mourn his death.
His dead body has been kept at BIRDEM hospital morgue. He will be buried after coming his two sons from USA, the release added.
Besides, in a condolence message, JU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Farzana Islam expressed profound shock at the death of Professor M Kabir.
She prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep  sympathy to the bereaved family members.
