Shamsuddin Ahmed, a former city editor of United News of Bangladesh (UNB), passed away on Monday. He was 79, reports UNB.
Family sources said Shamsuddin Ahmed, who had long been suffering from cancer, breathed his last at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) around 10 am.
He is survived by wife, four sons, two daughters and a host of relatives and admirers to mourn his death.
In his long professional career, Shamsuddin Ahmed worked for different renowned media outlets, including UNB, ENA, The Financial Express, The Independent, The Telegraph and Radio Pakistan, holding important posts.
He was a permanent member of the Jatiya Press Club.
His first namaz-e-janaza was held on the Press Club premises around 4 pm.
Adviser to the Prime Minister Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, Samakal Editor Golam Sarwar, Jatiya Press Club President Shaifqur Rahman, Bhorer Kagoj Editor Shaymal Dutta, UNB Editor Mahfuzur Rahman, Awami League leader Mozaffar Hossain Paltu, former State Minister for Information Syed Didar Bakht, senior journalist Saleh Chowdhury, Jatiya Press Club acting General Secretary Shahed Chowdhury, and BFUJ and DUJ leaders, among others, attended the janaza.
