KHULNA: The Forest Department has suspended its 12 employees, including three officials, for their suspected involvement in the smuggling of Sundari timber, reports UNB.
Amir Hossain, Conservator of Forest (Khulna Circle) said after getting reports of two probe committees punitive action was taken them.
Those suspended are-Forester of Jongra camp under Chandpai range of Sundarbans East zone Abdur Rauf, forest guards Bidhan Chandra Haldar, Ali Ahmed, boatmen Sultan Hawladar, Sarankhola range forester Amzad Hossain, Mobarak Hossain, guard Harun-or-Rashid, Abdul Aual, Badsha Sheikh, Abdur Rashid Shikdar, boatmen Selim Sardar and Nurul Islam.
Amir Hossain, conservator of Forest (Khulna Circle), said allegations were brought against 15 people for smuggling 1,000 cubic feet Sundari timber from Jongra camp under Chandpai range of the Sundarbans in April.
The Forest Department formed two separate probe committees-headed by deputy conservator of forest Bashirul Mamun, and assistant conservator of forest Mohammad Hossain-- to investigate the matter.
On May 4, the probe committees submitted their reports.
