Unidentified miscreants hacked to death a Juba League leader in front of his home early Monday in Zorarganj area under Mirsarai Upazila in Chittagong.
The deceased was identified as, Md Golam Mostofa, 45, a resident of the Alinagar area of the upazila. He was vice president of Juba League of Korerhat Union Parishad of Mirsarai Upazila.
“After getting information we have rushed to the spot and recovered the body at 7:30am. The murder incident was taken place in between 1am to 5am. He was returning home on his motorbike from Korerhat bazaar. The miscreants who lie in wait might have hacked to death him in his yard. He was wounds by sharp weapons, said Zahedul Kabir, officer-in-charge (OC) of Zorarganj Police Station.
“Mostafa was involved with poultry business at Korerhat Bazar,” said the OC.
He was known as a supporter of Korerhat Union Chairman Nayan, said local sources.
“We also heard there was dispute over land with Mostafa’s family. There are also political rivalries with him, however, after investigation we will be clear about the motive behind the killing, said the OC.
The body was sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
