Fake cigarettes seized

A mobile court, in association with RAB-5, in a drive seized a huge fake cigarettes and cigarette-making materials, and sealed off a cigarette factory at Paba upazila of the district on Tuesday noon. The court also arrested Borhan Uddin, manager the cigarette factory in this connection. Nilufar Yasmin, executive magistrate of the mobile court, confirmed the matter and said acting on a tip-off, a team of RAB-5, Rajshahi conducted a drive at a fake cigarette factory at Bagsara village under Paba upazila of the district and seized huge fake Star cigarettes wroth Tk. one crore from there. Sensing presence of RAB members, the manager of the factory tried to flee from the spot but RAB members able to arrest him, Yasmin added. However; the mobile court awarded one and a half month jail and fined Tk one lakh to the manager Borhan Uddin. Later, the seized cigarettes were destroyed in public and the factory was sealed, the magistrate added. It is learnt, on 27 May, this year RAB conducted a raid at the same factory and seized huge fake cigarettes of many renowned foreign brands.
