All set to celebrate Tagore’s birth anniversary today

Marking the 156th birth anniversary of Nobel laureate poet Rabindranath Tagore today, an array of different programmes has been arranged to honour the legendary figure. Besides the government, various socio-cultural organisations have chalked out various programmes on the occasion across the country, including the capital and historic Katcharibari in Naogaon. As a part of the celebration, the main programme will be held at the Devendra Mancha of the Katcharibari in Naogaon district. President Abdul Hamid will attend the programme as chief guest. Presided over by Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor, Textiles and Jute Minister Emaz Uddin Pramanik, lawmaker Israfil Alam from Naogaon-6 will be present as special guests at the event. Acting secretary of Cultural Affairs Ministry Mohammad Ibrahim Hossain Khan will deliver the welcome speech.
This year’s theme of the Tagore’s birthday celebration is ‘Religion of Humankind: Rabindranath and Contemporary Perceptiveness’. Professor Dr Hayat Mahmud will present a lecture on Tagore. After the discussion, a cultural programme will be held under the initiative of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) which will feature Tagore’s songs related to the folk culture.
Moreover, various programmes will also be held at Shilaidah in Kushtia, Patisar in Naogaon and South Dighi and Pithabogh in Khulna, the three districts that harbour the memories of Rabindranath Tagore, while Dhaka will arrange several programmes to commemorate the renowned poet.
On the other hand, BSA will organise a programme focusing on the works of Tagore while an exhibition of his paintings will also be arranged. Cultural Affairs Ministry and Bangla Academy will publish a commemorative booklet and posters marking Tagore’s 156th birth anniversary.
To pay tribute to Rabindranath Tagore on his birth anniversary, Bangla Academy will organise an event featuring discussions. In addition, Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Betar, along with other private television channels, will also air various types of special programmes and shows on the life and work of Rabindranath Tagore throughout the day.
