Nor’wester kills 1, injures 15

A man was killed and 15 others injured as nor’wester lashed Muktagacha and Phulbaria upazilas of Mymensingh on Saturday night.
The deceased was Abdul Mazid, 70, of village Borogram in Muktagachha. Quoting local people, Akhter Morshed, officer-in-charge of Muktagacha police station said Mazid died on the spot when a huge tree broke down in the storm and fell on him at his residence around 9pm. Hundreds of houses and trees were damaged at some 30 villages in Muktagacha upazila during the storm, said the OC.
At least 15 people were injured when a nor’wester hit some 25 villages in four unions of Phulbaria upazila on Saturday night. Over 200 houses were damaged and some 3,000 trees were uprooted in the storm, said Lira Tarafder, upazila nirbahi officer of Phulbaria.
Of the injured two were admitted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital while others were given first aid at Phulbaria Upazila Health Complex, said the UNO.
Several educational institutions were also damaged in the storm, the UNO informed.
18 rescued while being trafficked

Police rescued 18 people while they were being trafficked to India through Benapole yesterday yesterday afternoon.
Md Smeem Hossain, officer-in-charge of Benapole port police station, said on information police conducted a drive in Benapole bazar area and rescued 18 people including 3 women and 3 children while they were going to India illegally.All the victims hail from Narail, Gopalganj and Faridpur district. According to the victims, a gang of traffickers brought them to Benapole Bazar from different areas of the district. They took money from the victims and were sending them to India, promising good jobs there.
Police could not arrest any of the gang members as they fled the scene, sensing the presence of the police.
Man killed ‘by wife’ in Noakhali

 A man was killed allegedly by his wife over family feud at South Baggaon village in Subarnochar upazila of Noakhali district on Saturday night.
The deceased was identified as Sahidullah, 30, of the same area. Police yesterday arrested two including Sharifa, 27, for allegedly killing her husband following family feud.
Sharifa slaughtered her husband Sahidullah at night while he was sleeping and she tried to commit suicide, said Nizam Uddin, officer-in-charge of Charjabbar police station.
Police recovered the body and sent it to Noakhali General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
2 children drown in Chandpur

Two minor girls drowned in a pond at Barmondo village in Faridganj upazila of the district on Saturday.
The deceased were Ruma, 4, daughter of one Rubel Gazi and her four-year-old cousin Suborna, daughter of one Sumon Gazi, residents of the village. Manik Mia, a former Union Parishad member of the area, said Ruma and Suborna slipped into the pond and drowned while playing on the bank around 10 am.
