Bangabandhu’s sculpture to be built at 7th March Bhaban of DU
A sculpture of the Father of The Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman will be built at the '7th March Bhaban’, adjacent to Ruqayyah Hall of Dhaka University (DU). 
DU Vice-chancellor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique visited the under-construction building on Saturday and expressed satisfaction over the construction work.
He also urged the concerned there to complete the construction work in time.
Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts Prof Nisar Hossain, Provost and Planning Director of Ruqayyah Hall Dr Najma Shaheen and senior teachers and assigned sculptors were also present at that time.

Blood transfusion centre at DU Medical Centre
Badhan, a voluntary blood donors' organisation, has set up a blood transfusion centre at Dhaka University (DU) Medical Centre on the campus.
DU Vice-chancellor Professor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated the blood transfusion centre on the first floor of the DU medical center on Friday, said a DU press release yesterday.
 DU Pro-VC Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman, Badhan central President Farizul Islam, General Secretary Imaran Ali Imon, Badhan Foundation Chairman Shahidul Islam Ripan and other central leaders were present at the inaugural ceremony, among others.
Earlier, Badhan Foundation donated Taka 35 lakh in two phases for setting up the ‘Badhan Blood Transfusion Center’ at DU Medical Centre.

DU to celebrate Tagore’s birth anniversary today
Dhaka University (DU) authorities have taken various programmes to celebrate the 156th birth anniversary of Biswakabi Rabindranath Tagore today on the campus in a befitting manner.
Marking the day, a key note presentation programme on Rabindranath Tagore and a cultural function will be held at DU Teacher Student Centre (TSC) auditorium at 6 pm, said a DU press release yesterday.
The theme of this year is ‘Religion of Human Beings: Rabindranath and Contemporary Relevance’. Visva-Bharati University Professor, also DU ‘Rabindra Chair’ Dr Mahua Mukherjee will address the function as the key speaker with DU Vice-chancellor Professor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique in the chair. DU Music Department will perform in the cultural function, the release added.

Attack on Chhatra Front men protested at BAU
Leaders and activists of Somajtantrik Chhatra Front (Marxism) of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) unit brought out a procession on the campus yesterday demanding punishment of the attackers on them on April 27 and 28. 
The activists also placed a memorandum to the Vice-chancellor demanding to unlock their party office. They brought out the procession from the Teacher Student Centre (TSC) of the university and later they held a rally in front of the university administration office. 
The speakers in the discussion condemned the attack on them and demanded effective punishment of the attackers. 
Mentionable that, the Somajtantrik Chhatra Front (Khalequzzaman) and another wing of it Somajtantrik Chhatra Front (Marxism) locked in a clash over the occupancy of the party office on the campus that left at least 15 injured from both sides. Later, the university administration sealed off the party office for indefinite period.

Int’l conference on nutrition held at IU
ISLAMIC UNIVERSITY: An international conference on nutrition was held at Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia on Saturday.
Applied Nutrition and Food Technology Department organised the conference on ‘Role of Nutrition in Health and Development’ in association with Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP) of University Grant Commission (UGC) at Bir Shreshta Hamidur Rahman Auditorium around10am.
IU Vice-chancellor Professor Dr M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari was present as chief guest while Pro-VC Professor Dr M Shahinoor Rahman and Dean of Applied Science and Technology Faculty Dr M Shamsul Alam as special guests.
Dr M Rezaul Karim, chairman of Applied Nutrition and Food Technology Department, chaired the event.
The department professor SM Abdur Rouf conducted the conference while professor of Infection Biology Department of Tsukuba University in Japan Mitsuru Okuwaki, Pro-VC of University of Science & Technology in Chittagong Nurul Absar and professor of Rajshahi University's Biotechnology and Molecular Biology Department Khaled Hossain were present as key note speakers.
Over three hundred teachers and students of various departments took part in the programme.
