Artistes put forward titular question to curious hearts

A group painting exhibition titled ‘Pabe Samanye Ki Tar Dekha’ (Can the Divine Presence be Felt So Easily?) is underway at La Galerie of Alliance Française de Dhaka (AFD). 

The inaugural ceremony of the two-week exhibition was held at the gallery premises on Friday evening. Architect and critic Mustapha Khalid Palash and Jagannath University of Fine Arts Department associate professor Dr Rashid Amin were present the opening ceremony as special guests. AFD Director Bruno Plasse welcomed the guests and also presided over the opening ceremony.
Artists Al-Akhir Sarker, Farzana Haque and Shah Syed Khwaja Mukaddas Shadi Ahmed put forward the titular question to every curious heart out there through their artworks. 
Akhir looks deep at the inner world and tries to find his own place in the wider land of imagination through his specific theme of painting. In his concept, Akhir has a clear view in depicting beauty, taking his inspiration in a combination of Bengali people’s traditions, feelings, customs, religious behaviours and thoughts. The life of Bengali Muslims and their traditions is the main focus of Akhir’s painting. Movement and metamorphosis in life can be felt and found in his work.  
Artist Farzana Haque deals with the theme of feminism. Her paintings stem from a philosophy of ‘beauty’. Woman empowerment is central to her work. A woman can be a catalyst in creating harmony, she can play a major role in contributing to social development and needs to feel empowered and equal to a man. The artist personifies woman as an embodiment of faith, love, determination, commitment and sacrifice.
“Reflection of spirit is all about vital process of development”. Sadi Ahmed Mukaddas is a talented hard working artist. Sufism tradition and Islamic calligraphy are of great influence to his artworks. Inspired by mysticism, he depicts the belief that union with the absolute, or the spiritual apprehension of knowledge inaccessible to the intellect, that may be attained through contemplation and self-surrender. The techniques and mediums in his work are versatile and rich.
The exhibition remains open to all until May 17 and can be visited according to the following schedule—Mondays to Thursdays from 3pm to 9pm, Fridays and Saturdays (9am to12pm and 5:00pm to 8:00pm). Closed -Sunday.
