Seminar on ‘Philosophy of Bengal’ begins at JU

A three-day long seminar on ‘Tracing the Origin, Nature and Development of Philosophy of Bengal -2017’ began yesterday at Jahangirnagar University (JU) campus.
Philosophy department of Jahangirnagar University (JU) organised the seminar. 
JU Vice-chancellor Prof Dr Farzana Islam inaugurated the programme at the seminar room of philosophy department at 10am, while the chairman of the department Prof Md. Tarique Choudhury was in the chair. 
The three day-long seminar will be included with inaugural session, discussion on racing the origin, nature and development of Philosophy of Bengal by different researchers of different public universities and concluding session.  Vice-chancellor of Sanskriti College and University of India Prof Dilip Kumar Mohanta and Professor of Fine Arts department of Assam University Prof Anjan Sen attended the seminar. 

Orientation programme held at IUB
Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) implemented its Summer 2017 Semester’s orientation programme for newly admitted undergraduate students yesterday at the university’s own campus in Bashundhara, Dhaka, says a press release.
Prof Milan Pagon, Pro Vice- chancellor, IUB, Prof Sarwar Uddin Ahmed, Dean, School of Business; Prof Shahriar Khan, Dean, School of Engineering and Computer Science; Dr Abdul Khaleque, Dean, School of Environmental Science and Management; Dr Mahbub Alam, Dean, School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences; and Prof Rita Yusuf, Dean, School of Life Sciences also welcomed the new students and spoke in the programme. 

IU to remain closed tomorrow
ISLAMIC UNIVERSITY: The Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia will remain closed tomorrow on the occasion of Rabindranath Tagore's birth anniversary.
All the academic and administrative activities will remain closed on that day.
The offices and class-exams of all departments will resume on May 9, registrar office sources said. Meanwhile, UNB adds: An international conference on nutrition was held at Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia yesterday. Applied Nutrition and Food Technology Department organised the conference on 'Role of Nutrition in Health and Development' in association with Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP) of University Grant Commission (UGC) at Bir Shreshta Hamidur Rahman Auditorium around10am.
IU Vice-chancellor Professor Dr M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari was present as chief guest while Pro-VC Professor Dr M Shahinoor Rahamn and Dean of Applied Science and Technology Faculty Dr M Shamsul Alam as special guests. Dr M Rezaul Karim, chairman of Applied Nutrition and Food Technology Department, chaired the event.

Resisting drug for saving the young generations stressed
RANGPUR: Combined efforts of the teachers, students, guardians, common people and police have become crucial at the present times to resist drug abuse for saving the young generations to build a prosperous nation.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) for Rangpur Range Khondker Golam Faruk viewed this here today at two separate ceremonies arranged for distribution of anti-drug booklets and leaflets at Paira Chattar point and Carmichael College premises in the city.
The DIG distributed booklets styled “Drug is enemy in the eye of Islam” and leaflets describing severe consequences of drug abuse among the common people, teachers, students and guardians. The booklets and leaflets were distributed to enhance social awareness as part of the anti-drug campaign being conducted by police in Rangpur division for saving the young generations from drug abuse and bringing back the drug addicts to normal life.  Additional DIGs Bashir Ahmmed and Chowdhury Manjurul Kabir, Police Super Mizanur Rahman, Additional Police Supers ABM Zakir Hossain, Fazle Elahi and Saifur Rahman, Member Secretary of the divisional and district units of Community Policing Shushanto Bhowmick and other police officials were present.
    The DIG said that drug addiction totally destroys talent of the youths during their student life and everybody has social obligation to do their best through creating anti-drug awareness for keeping the students away from drugs.
“Bangladesh has been facing tow major problems of drug abuse and militancy---the present government has been working with maximum priority to eliminate these two curses permanently from the country," he said.
