The reigning champions Faridpur District Sports Association, Kurigram, Mymensingh and Dhaka Education Board won their respective matches in the ATN Bangla 31st National Hockey Gold Cup Championship yesterday.

But it has become very uncertain for Faridpur DSA, to move into the next round (quarterfinal) as the reigning champions are in trouble after conceding defeat in their first match of the tournament to Dhaka Education board. Both the sides left one match each to play in group stage, when Dhaka Board will take on Narayanganj DSA and Faridpur will play against Chittagong DSA and it is very much predicted that both sides will win their respective matches, it means Faridpur will be eliminated from the group phase.
Held at the Maulana Bhashani Hockey Stadium, in the day’s first match Kurigram DSA came from behind to defeat Thakurgaon by 4-2.
Hasibuzzaman led the Kurigram on 27th minute. Thakurgaon leveled it three minutes later with Ekka scored on half an hour mark and also went ahead through Shukesh scoring on 39th minute.
But Kurigram bounced back strongly with scoring three goals to win the match by 4-2 when Kamrul equalized the margin and Shahid added two goals.
In the day’s second match Mymensingh DSA earned an easy 8-2 win against Satkhira with Rahat, Ismail and Tanvir netting two goals each. Himel and Masuk added one each. Saiful and Faisal reduced one each for Satkhira.
Veteran midfielder Musa Meah sounded the board twice and Arafat added one goal, as Faridpur DSA defeated Narayanganj by 3-1 while Apon scored one goal for Narayanganj.
In the day’s last match, Dhaka Education Board blanked Chittagong DSA by 5-0 when Abed Uddin, Prince Lal Samonta, Shaon Sheikh, Rohan Shabbir and Debashish scored one goal each.
