Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS), dubbed Home of Cricket in Bangladesh, yet again host international match after 10 weeks. Since May 1 the Burmese grass has been planting on the new soil of the four-layered ground wherein labours are watering these grasses four times in a day. The process of planting grasses will end within the next seven days.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) director and its ground committee chairman Hanif Bhuiyan came up with the remarks while he along with local experts appeared in to monitor the works.
“This is our routine work. We’ve planted grasses on the field. We have to water these grasses four-times in a day that’s a difficult job. It would then be better for the workers if heavy rain would hold in these periods,” said Hanif Bhuiyan.
“We’ve started in-field visit wherein we saw that work is going on in full swing. We’re happy for it. It would be better if we could manage more workers to engage in and finish it as per our expected date,” Bhuiyan told a gathering of some local media.
“Actually we’re discussing the matter. We’ve called our CEO to discuss the matter how we could finish the work as early as possible bringing labours out of the Dhaka. If we could give our best effort and finish the repairing work in time then the next series we could do hold at this stadium,” he added.
He was accompanied BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury, Dr A B M Badruzzaman, professor of department of Civil Engineering, BUET and Dr M Matiur Rahman, director (retd) of Bangladesh National Herbarium under ministry of environment and forest.
It is learnt that around 40 percent of the grass planting has been finished. The grasses have been covered with jute-made sack and watered by sprinklers four-times in a day.
Nizamuddin said that the way the repairing working is going on if it continues in this way then the last Test of the Australian series could be possible to host here.
“We’ve a work plan. On the basis of that work plan, we’re going ahead targeting the upcoming Australia series. If everything is in right shape, then one of the matches of the Australia series will be held at this stadium,” he said.
“The outfield preparation of the stadium is going on. Works in pitch had been done earlier of the time. So pitch is ready for the games. Now the outfield work is being done. We have targets if we could give 10 weeks after planting grass, it will then be possible to stage any international match in this stadium,” he thought.
In the presence of BUET experts, workers are cullendering the soil so that no clay can stay in the soil.
