Robiul Islam Robi hit his second straight century in the ongoing Walton Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League as Khelaghar Samaj Kallayan Samity produced an upset, sealing a 20-run win over Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Cricket Club yesterday at BKSP-4 ground.
Another little known player Imran Ali on the other hand claimed a five-wicket haul in his just second List A match to help Partex Sporting Club win its first match in the seventh game when they crushed Kalabagan Krira Chakra by 62 runs at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium, Fatullah.
Gazi Group faced a tough fight from Brothers Union but the bowlers’ determination denied any upset incident as they came out as winner with 10 runs victory at BKSP-3 ground to keep them unbeaten as of now.
Khelaghar vs Sheikh Jamal
Robi followed his 107 against Victoria with 103 as Khelaghar posted a decent 266 for eight after which their bowlers bowled well in tandem to wrap up Jamal’s innings for 246 in 47.2 overs.
In addition of losing the match which could lift them to second position in the point table in case of victory, Jamal’s situation was worsened by the injury of skipper Abdur Razzak. The former key spinner of national team fell badly after trying to reach the popping crease with a desperate diving and took off the ground through stretcher.
He was then sent back to Dhaka from BKSP by helicopter and it looked like the injury is serious.
Razzak did his best with bowling, snapping up five for 52 but his tremendous bowling and desperate attempt to bail the side out of danger with batting went in vain at the end.
However Rajin Saleh and Ziaur Rahman chased the target in a descent way after both of them got a start and shared 108 runs for the fifth wicket. Losing four for 75, Jamal was in the back foot before both of them rescued the side. But both of them threw away the wicket after crossing 70s. Saleh was dismissed on 76 while Ziaur was trapped run out when he was on 75. Their departure caused a collapse in the batting line up from which Jamal could never recover. Tanvir Islam was the bowler to give Jamal nightmare with four for 41.
But the match was about the gutsy innings of opener Robi who patiently built the momentum for Khelaghar. Amidst the falling of wicket, Robi took the side in a position of dominance, playing 126 ball-102 that was designed by 10 fours and two sixes. Amit Majumder was the other notable scorer with 58 while his fellow opener Salahuddin Pappu made 46.
Gazi vs Brothers
Opener Anamul Haque Bijoy continued his rich vein of form but yet again missed out a century by being out for 93. However his third 90 plus knock in the league steered Gazi Group to 236 before they were all out in 48.4 overs. Fast bowler Abu Haider Rony then took care of the Brothers batting line up by bundling out them for 226 in 48.5 overs.
Rony grabbed four for 52 and was assisted by Mehedi Hasan and Shahidul Islam, both of whom took two wickets apiece. Brothers were in the game thanks to Indian recruit Manbindar Singh Bisla who made 56. But Rony uprooted his wicket in a searing Yorker to make the difference.
Earlier, Bijoy hit five fours and four sixes in his 97 ball-93 runs knock. Suhrawardi Shuvo made 41 while skipper Nadif Chowdhury added 33.
Partex vs Kalabagan
Partex finally opened the account in point-table, largely thanks to the skilful bowling of Imran Ali. Playing only his second List A match, Ali returned figures of five for 42 to shoot Kalabagan out for 216 in 46.1 overs after Partex piled up 278 for five.
Irfan Shukkur was the highest scorer for Partex with 58 while Sazzadul Haque scored 53. Nabil Samad took three for 50 for Kalabagan.
Given the strength, Kalabagan was favourite to chase down the total but Ali sliced the middle order in a gem of bowling to foil Kalabagan’s hope. Hamilton Masakadza made 45.
