Religious Affairs Minister Principal Motiur Rahman yesterday called upon all to plant more saplings both fruits and medicinal and timber bearing ones for maintaining ecological balance and making self-reliant of the rural people, reports BSS. He made this call at the inaugural ceremony of a week-long "Tree plantation campaign and Tree Fair-2015" at Mymensingh town hall as chief guest this morning. Department of Forest and Agriculture Extension (DAE) organized the function with the assistance of district administration. With Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Abdul Ahad in the chair, Divisional Forest Officer Gobinda Roy and Deputy Director of Agriculture Extension Altabur Rahman also spoke. Professor of Horticulture Department of Bangladesh Agricultural University Prof. Abdur Rahim presented a key-note paper in the inaugural function. Motiur Rahman said ecological imbalance causes natural calamities which brings great losses of lives and properties of our country every year. Later, the minister visited different stalls on the fair venue and planted saplings of trees on the government laboratory school campus here. A total of 30 stalls were setup in the fair, sources said.
