The Election Commission yesterday dismissed the allegation of Sushasoner Jonno Nagorik (Shujan) that there has been a reverse gender gap in the voter list in the last few years, reports UNB. Terming the statistics placed by Shujan ‘unauthentic’, the commission said many eligible males failed to be registered as voters in 2008. “In fact, the statistic placed by Shujan at a press conference over the decline in female voters is not authentic,” said a press release signed by EC Director (Public Relations) SM Asaduzzaman. The commission said the share of male and female voters was 49.11 percent and 50.89 percent respectively in 2008 despite the number of the males was higher at that time. The ratio of the country’s male and female was 51.54:48.46 according to the 2001 population census, it noted.
