Law minister Anisul Huq claimed yesterday (Thursday) that there was no rift between the executive and the judiciary.
He was talking to reporters at Hotel Sonargaon in the city, a day after Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha said that the rule of law and development of the state was being obstructed by some political leaders and over-enthusiastic government officers and employees.
Speaking at a function of lawyers in Joypurhat, the Chief Justice further said that some officials provided wrong information to the head of the government and the government took decisions based on it.
Apart from the statement, people also seem to believe that a rift has developed between the executive and the judiciary following recent statements by various quarters of the government and the Chief Justice.
When asked, the law minister said: “I think the honourable Chief Justice has ended all speculations by making the statement. He has clearly said that there is no rift between the government and the judiciary.”
Earlier, the minister opened the 22nd annual congregation of the Bangladesh Lions Club 315-A at Hotel Sonargaon. He was the chief guest.
However, the minister did not reply to any other question of reporters. In his address at the programme, the minister said Bangabandhu Shiekh Mujibur Rahman had built the base of the country’s infrastructure, education, economy and other development.
His daughter, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, is continuing the development process. The nation’s economy is in good shape after the Awami League came to power in 2009, the minister said.
He urged the Lions to extend their helping hand for the poor. Lion Kalpona Raziuddin presided over the programme.
