Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-13 arrested regional chief of Ansaruallh Bangla Team (ABT) Zahid Hassan alias Abu Zayed Al Ansar, 25, from Keranipara area in Rangpur city early yesterday, reports BSS.
Rangpur Battalion Commander of RAB-13 Commander ATM Atikullah disclosed the information and answered various questions asked by the local journalists at a press briefing at his office in the city yesterday afternoon.
Assistant Director of Rangpur Battalion Commander of RAB-13 ASP Khondker Golam Mortuza and other officials of the elite force were present.
The arrested regional chief of ABT Zahid is son of Md Abdullah of Keranipara area under Kotwali Thana in Rangpur city.
Huge bomb-making materials and explosives were also seized from the possession of Zahid during the raid.
"During primary interrogation, arrested Zahid admitted that a group of youths became inspired in conducting militant activities under his leadership through communications, and he was elected as their chief," Atikullah said.
"Zahid learnt techniques of making bombs through using social media communications like YouTube, primarily prepared bomb and also tried to explode the same," he said.
Zahid was trying to hire a house on rent for other members of ABT to become united and select target for conducting militant attacks in near future, but their plan was foiled through his arrest, he added.
"The next legal steps are being taken against the arrested regional chief of ABT Zahid," he said.
