Inflow of remittance continued to maintain an upward trend in April as the country received US$1,092.64 million up 1.9 per cent or US$15.12 million from March, according to Bangladesh Bank (BB), reports BSS.
In March, the country received US$1,077.52 million. Of the US$1,092.64 million, private commercial banks (PCBs) brought in US$810.38 million, the state owned commercial banks (SCBs) US$260.30 million, the foreign commercial banks US$12.21 million while the specialized banks US$9.75 million.
Six state-owned commercial banks-Agrani, Janata, Rupali, Sonali, Basic and BDBL - received $260.30 million while one state-owned specialized bank-Bangladesh Krishi Bank received $9.75 million.
Of the state-owned banks, Agrani Bank received $102.86 million, Janata Bank $66.10 million, Rupali Bank $11.24 million, Sonali Bank $80.03 million and Basic Bank $0.07 million. Among the PCBs, Islamic Bank alone brought home US$187.13 million while Dutch Bangla Bank US$72.94 million.
According to the BB, the country received a total of $10,287.23 million in the first 10 months for the fiscal year 2016-17.
Expatriate workers sent home $1,005.51 million in July, $1,183.81 million in August, $1,056.64 in September, $1,010.99 million in October, $951.37 million in November, $958.73 in December, $1,009.47 million in January and $940.75 million in February.
