Army outclass Rangpur 33-0 in last group match

All top seeded teams made their rooms in the quarterfinals in the 31st ATN Bangla Gold Cup National Hockey Championship when Bangladesh Army and Dhaka District Sports Association joined the Bangladesh Navy and Bangladesh Air Force, defeating their respective opponents yesterday.

Held at the Maulana Bhashani Hockey Stadium, in the day’s first match, Rajshahi DSA thrashed Barisal by 21-0 with Lalon scoring five goals, Masud Pervj three while Taher Ali, Ahsan Habib, Rubel Hossain and Arman Bappi Kumar scored two goals each. Lemon Hossain, Akib Javed and Hridoy Shekh struck one goal each.
Rimon scored six goals including a hattrick, as Sylhet DSA trounced Jhenidah by 9-1 in the day’s second match. Mamun added rest of three goals of nine for Sylhet while Bayezid Hossain reduced one goal for Jhenidah.
Dhaka DSA defeated Dinajpur by 7-2 to be unbeaten champion in their group and qualified for the quarterfinals. Mahbub Hossain, Habul scored two each, Rabbi and Iqbal added one goal each while Irfan and Tanjim reduced one goal each for Dinajpur.
Milon Hossain scored 13 goals including a hattrick as Bangladesh Army, one of the favourites to win the title, humiliated Rangpur DSA by 33-0 in the last match of the day.
In the goal galore match, besides Milon Hossain’s 13 goals, Nayeem struck seven, Hassan Jubaer four, Abdul Malek three, Rokunuzzaman two and Rezaul Karim, Ahsan Habib, Shafiqul Islam, and Abu Salam scored one goal each.
