2 killed in Gazipur road accident
Two people were killed in a road accident in Ashpara area on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway under in Gazipur yesterday morning.
The deceased are Aminul Islam, 28, son of Abul Kalam of Chakpara area of Sripur upazila and Alamin, 24, son of Aminul Hossain, a resident of Katlahat under Birampur Thana in Dinajpur district. Officer-in-Charge of Mauna Highway Thana M Delwar Hossain said the accident occurred when a pickup van hit a standing truck in the area at about 4 am as its driver lost control over the vehicle.
Pickup owner Aminul and driver Alamin dead on the spot. Police recovered the bodies and sent to Tajuddin Ahamed Medical College Hospital morgue.
ALPP to meet on May 7
A meeting of Bangladesh Awami League Parliamentary Party (ALPP) will be held on May 7 (Sunday) at ruling party's meeting room at the eighth floor of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban at 7:30pm.
ALPP Leader and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will chair the meeting, a press release said in the capital yesterday. ALPP secretary Noor-e-Alam Chowdhury, MP, has requested all party lawmakers to attend the meeting on time.
Mobile court fines 64 pedestrians
A mobile court of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) fined 64 pedestrians Tk 4,065 as they were found crossing the road without using the foot overbridge at Housebuilding crossing of Uttara in the city on Wednesday.
DMP Executive Magistrate Moshiur Rahman carried out the mobile court from 11am against those found violating the rule that whenever a foot overbridge is within a certain distance, pedestrians must use it to cross roads. The initiative was undertaken to raise the awareness among pedestrians regarding the rule, said Deputy Commissioner (Traffic-North) Prabir Kumar Ray.
Mobile court activities will be further intensified at every important place under the Traffic North Division in future to encourage pedestrians to use foot overbridges instead of risking their lives trying to cross busy roads, Ray said.
Annual confce of Lions Club held
Law Minister Anisul Huq today called upon the members of Bangladesh Lions Club to take side of helpless people of society.
He made the call while addressing the 22nd annual conference of Bangladesh Lions Club (Lions District 315A1) as chief gust at a hotel in the capital yesterday morning.
“You are responsible partners of society.
No development is possible, no challenge can be tackled without your help. So, I would like to call upon you to help the helpless,” the minister said.
