Swedish ambassador calls on DU VC
Swedish Ambassador to Bangladesh Johan Frisell yesterday called on Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique at his office here.
Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh University of Health Sciences Prof Liaquat Ali, Dean of DU Science Faculty Prof Mohammed Abdul Aziz, Chairman of DU Chemistry Department Prof Nilufar Nahar, Prof Mohammad Shoeb of the same department and Communication Officer of Embassy of Sweden Poroma Kanya were present, said a release.
During the meeting, they discussed matters of mutual interest especially, the on-going joint collaborative academic and research programmes between Dhaka University and Swedish universities.They exchanged views regarding how to strengthen the existing collaboration and friendly ties between DU and Swedish universities.
DU VC Dr Siddique thanked Swedish Ambassador Frisell for his visit to Dhaka University and showing keen interest in its academic and research activities, the release added.
Charity film fest at IU to raise fund
KUSHTIA: A day-long Charity film festival will be held at Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia on Sunday to raise fund.
The fund will be utilized for the treatment of Sifat Muntaha Soni, an assistant Professor of Statistics Department of the university, who is now struggling for her life due to Blood Cancer. The festival will be held at the central auditorium of the university organized by Islamic University Film Society (IUFS). Three films, English film Kung fu Punda 3 directed by Jennifer Yuh Nelson & Alessandro Carloni, Hindi film Three Idiots directed by Rajkumar Hirani and Bengali film Dipu Number 2 directed by Morshedul Islam will be screened in the festival. Asif Khan, member of IUFS said Tk 90 lakh is needed for Soni's treatment. Funds can be sent to Md. Orientation programmes held at EWU
The orientation programmes of the newly admitted students for Summer Semester 2017 were held at East West University (EWU) campus at Aftabnagar in the capital Thursday, says a press release.
Nearly 1200 students got admitted to the graduate and undergraduate programmes in 14 different departments of the university in this semester. Each department arranged the individual programmes for their newly admitted students. The objective of the programmes were to welcome the new students and orient them to the university facilities, faculty members, academic system and rules and regulations.
The individual programmes of different departments were attended by Dr Mohammed Farashuddin, chairperson of Board of Trustees, EWU and Former Governor of Bangladesh Bank, Dr Rafiqul Huda Chaudhury, Member, Board of Trustees and Chairperson, Centre for Research and Training (EWU) and Deans of the faculties of this University. Speakers at the programmes advised the newly admitted students to make the best use of the university resources and emphasized the importance of maintaining high ethical standards and discipline.
