At least eight transport workers were injured in a clash between two groups of transport workers at Shaheed Hasan Chattar of the district town on Monday noon over plying of vehicles on the historic May Day, reports UNB. Tozammel Hossain, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, said Chuadanga district Bus-Truck Workers’ Union was holding a meeting in the area in the morning marking the day. At one stage, the workers from the meeting hurled brick chips when a ‘Royal Paribahan bus’ was passing the road near the meeting place and also assaulted the driver.
Following the incident, the workers of Royal Paribahan brought out a protest rally in Daulatdia BADC area. When the rally reached Daulatdia bus stand area, the transport workers chased them. Later, a chase and counter-chase took place in the area. Around eight transport workers injured in the incident. On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. Additional police have been deployed to avoid any untoward situation. Besides, Royal Paribahan authorities filed a complaint with Sadar Police station.
