BCB hands punishment to accused bowlers, clubs, captains, umpiers

The BCB probe committee handed down the exemplary punishment to the accused bowlers, clubs, captains, coaches, team managers and umpires after a thorough investigation in two Dhaka Second Division Cricket League matches.

The committee slapped a 10-year bar on bowlers-Sujon Mahmud (Lalmatia Club) and Tasnim Hasan (Fear Fighter Sporting Club). 
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) director and probe committee chairman Sheikh Sohel disclosed all to some local media in Mirpur yesterday. 
In the super league match between Axiom Cricketers and Lalmatia Club in April 11 at City Club Ground, Mahmud leaked 92 runs off just four balls. Tasnim Hasan on the other hand conceded 69 runs in seven balls in the match between Fear Fighter Sporting Club and Indira Road Krira Chakra at Jahangir Nagar University ground on April 10. 
The committee suspended both the teams-Lalmatia Club and Fear Fighter Sporting Club- for the life time for having their direct involvement in hatching the scam to tarnish the image and reputation of Bangladesh Cricket in international arena.
“By making a thorough investigation, we have made our conclusion that the entire team was behind the mechanism. So we have been suspended both the teams,” Sohel said putting up his argument. 
Along with that, they handed a five-year suspension on captains, team managers and coaches of the two accused clubs. They’re captains Foysal Ahmed (Lalmatia) and Tonumoy Ghosh (Fear Fighter), Mustakim Tore (coach-cum-team manager of Fear Fighter) and Biplob (coach-team manager of Lalmatia).
About team’s captain, coach and team manager, the probe committee chairman said that as of a team has captain, team manager and coach, a bowler can not bowl if they did not give him their nods. 
“Coach, team manager and captain question a fielder when he makes a miss-field. But any of them could not ask any question to bowlers. So, it proves tangibly that all they hatched together the conspiracy. And so we accused them all,” Sohel, who is also BCB logistic committee chairman.
They suspended both matches’ umpires-Azizul Bari Babu and Shamsur Rahman Jacky- for the next six months not to administrate the matches properly.
“Umpires could not administrate the matches properly. Even they could not stop the games. And so, they have been suspended for the next six months,” he said, adding “They will not conduct any match under CCDM for the next six-month. We’ve formed a committee, who will monitor them in this period.”
Before declaring the verdict, the committee took interview of players, umpires, team officials, witnesses in the event of ‘4-ball 92-run’ and ‘7-ball 69’ since last three-four days. Therefore they prepared a report on it. Last two days ago, they held a meeting with BCB president and took a decision in the presence of the president. 
On April 22, BCB president Nazmul Hassan Papon revealed that they have formed a probe committee led by its directors Sheikh Sohel, Jalal Younus and Akram Khan to investigate the allegation of irregularities in Second Division matches.
