Body recovered from lake
Police recovered the body of a young man from the capital’s Hatirjheel Lake on Monday.
Sources at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) said locals spotted the floating body of Sabuj, 30, in Hatirjheel Lake in Tejgaon industrial area around 10am and informed the police. Later, sub-inspector (SI) of Tejgaon Industrial Police Station Sajedul Haque recovered the body and sent it to the DMCH morgue. Police suspected that Sabuj drowned in the lake after falling there as locals alleged that he was a drug addict.

Four burned in AC blast in capital
Four people suffered burn injuries as an air-conditioner compressor reportedly exploded at a private firm office in the capital’s Elephant Road area on Sunday.
The injured are Monaem Hossain Jony, 38, a painter, Utpal Chakroborty, 45, director of Home Enjoy Developer Company, his office assistant Ali Reza, 32, and M Sohel, 35. The explosion took place in the evening when Monaem was painting the office of Home Enjoy Developer Company on the ground floor of a 12-storey building near Eastern Mollika, leaving the four injured with burns. They were taken to the Burn and Plastic Surgery unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) around 7pm.

Two drown in Rangpur
Two adolescents, who are relatives, embraced their tragic ends after drowning in the river Ghaghot at Singhimari Ghat point under Sadar upazila in Rangpur on Monday afternoon, police said.
The deceased were identified as class-eight student Sumaiya Akhter Shimu, 13, daughter of late Ataur Rahman of Purbo Barobari Dararpar village under Sadar upazila in Rangpur and Sakib Ahmed, 16, son of Abdur Rashid of Sreerampur village under Sadullapur upazila in Gaibandha districts. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kotwali Thana ABM Zahidul Islam said Sakib came to the house of his maternal grandfather's house at Purbo Barobari Dararpar village.

Two arrested with liquor 
Highway police arrested two alleged drug peddlers along with 100 bottles of liquor on the Sylhet-Tamabil highway on Monday night. The arrestees were identified as Noman Ahmed, 34, and Junayed Ahmed, 32. On secret information, a team of Daspara Highway police camp raided a microbus around 9pm and arrested the duo, said Mashuk Miah, sub-inspector of the police camp. Police also seized the contraband liquor and the microbus. A case was filed.

Man dies from electrocution 
A rickshaw-puller was electrocuted to death in the capital’s Shahjahanpur on Monday.
Sub inspector Bachchu Miah, also in-charge of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) police camp, said Parvez, 25, suffered injuries after he came in contact with a live electric wire at noon while he was bringing out the house furniture from Shahjahanpur Railway Colony in a bid to take those to a new house. He was taken to the DMCH where doctors declared him dead, said the SI.

Shibir man held along with ‘arms’
Police arrested a leader of Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir from Matikata union in Rajshahi early Tuesday.
Hipjur Alam Munshi, officer-in-charge of Godagari Police Station, said police conducted a drive in the area around 1:30am and arrested Shibir's ward unit president Mesbahul Haque along with a 'revolver and five bullets'.

4 fraudsters held in capital
Police have arrested four members of a fraud gang along with firearms, ammunition and other items usually used by law enforcers from the capital’s Banani area.
Deputy Commissioner (Media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Masudur Rahman on Sunday said when traffic police members intercepted a microbus at a check post at Kakoli crossing around 12:50pm on Saturday to check its documents, two occupants ran away from the vehicle. On suspicion, the police team searched the microbus and arrested four frauds -- Sanjoy Sarker, 38, Selim Miah, 40, Harun-ur-Rashid, 36, and Badsha Miah, 30.
