Nazrul's ‘Bidrohi’ recited by thousands at DU
Bashori, a center for practising Nazrul, in association with Bangladesh National Cadet Corps (BNCC) organised an event named “Lakho Konthe Bidrohi Kobita” at the central playground of Dhaka University (DU) on Monday.
DU teachers and students and participants from other educational institutions under BNCC recited, in chorus, the poem “Bidrohi’ (rebel) by Rebel Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, said a DU press release in the capital yesterday.Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu and  DU Vice-chancellor Professor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique attended the function as chief guest and special guest respectively. Addressing the function, Hasanul Haque Inu urged   the young generation to work for building a non-communal and progressive Bangladesh, taking inspirations from Kazi Nazrul's rebellious poems.

IU student comes up with intelligent home device
KUSHTIA: Niyaz Mustakim, a masters’ student of Applied Physics, Electronics and Communication Engineering department of Islamic University in Kushtia has created an ‘Intelligent, smart and versatile home security system’ device to securely maintain matters relating to the home, office, bank and other important places by using a mobile app. 
It can control all kinds of electronic devices including fan, air conditioner and personal computers. Niyaz displayed the device at a press conference held at the university's press corner recently. Niyaz made the device using keypad, display, some signal lights, a monitor, spy camera, a digital watch, a passive infrared motion sensor, a fingerprint sensor, space monitor, flame sensor, gas sensor, smoke sensor and sound sensor.
It can open any kind of door and window by through an Android mobile. The owner of the device can see visitors at their door, or intruders, through the spy camera. It can store upto 20 people's fingerprints who can enter the home, office or bank account any time through touch. The device will be very helpful for the bankers. If the robbers try to commit robbery, the device will send a video call over Skype. As a result the user can easily identify the robbers. Niyaz Mustakim came up with the device after two years' work which was supervised by the department's associate professors M Khalid Hossain Jewel and Khalilur Rahman.

Seminar on Youth in Change held at DIU
Daffodil International University (DIU) and Better Bangladesh Foundation (BBF) jointly organised a seminar on “Youth in Change” on Sunday at the university auditorium in the capital, says a press release. 
Ms Aktari Mamtaz, secretary, Bangladesh Public Service Commission Secretariat was present in the seminar as the chief guest. Ms. Sally-Anne Vincent, Deputy High Commissioner of Australia in Bangladesh presented the keynote paper in the seminar. Md. Sabur Khan, chairman, Board of Trustees, Daffodil International University and Chairman, Daffodil Group preside over the programme. Moderated by Masud A. Khan, Chairman, Better Bangladesh Foundation, the seminar was also addressed, among others, by Hamidul Haque Khan, Treasurer, Syed Mizanur Rahman, Director of Student Affairs.

Zia Hydar Memorial Scholarship distribution at DU tomorrow
The ‘Professor Zia Hydar Memorial Scholarship’ distribution ceremony will be held at the lounge adjacent to the Vice-chancellor's (VC) office on Dhaka University (DU) campus tomorrow.
DU VC Professor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique will address the function as chief guest with Pro-VC (academic) Professor Dr Nasreen Ahmad in the chair, said a DU press release in the capital yesterday. DU Arts Faculty Dean Professor Dr Abu Md Delwar Hosain and Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Director General Liaquat Ali Lucky will attend the function as special guests, the release added.

Last phase online application for NU 1st year admission to begin May 4
The second and last phase of online application through release slip for first year admission under 2016-2017 academic session of the National University (NU) will begin on May 4.
The online filing of application will start at 4pm on the day and continue till 12am on May 11, said a NU press release in the capital yesterday. The students who were not in the merit list and those who did not take admission though they were in the merit list or those who cancelled admission can apply through release slip. But no fresher can apply through the release slip, the release added. Detailed information is available on the university website --- www.admissions.nu.edu.bd or nu.edu.bd/ admissions.
