The government will provide food assistance to fishermen alongside the farmers of flood-hit haor region under the vulnerable group feeding (VGF) programme as they have become jobless, reports UNB.
Besides, the government has released Tk 10-15 crore for each of the flood-hit haor districts to create alternative employment for the affected people, including the farmers and fishermen.
Disaster Management and Relief Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya told a meeting on flood situation in haor areas held at the Secretariat on Wednesday.
Maya said the flood-victims will be given alternative jobs under a 40-day special programme through union parishad chairmen.
He said they will initially provide 30.3 lakh marginalised poor people in haor areas with food support under the VGF programme.
