Mominul Haque who was overlooked in the Bangladesh ODI set up for the last two years played an innings of his life to keep Gazi Group Cricketers unbeaten so far in the Walton Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League.
The diminutive batsman, considered as Test specialist, hammered a scintillating 120 ball-152, his career best List A score, to guide Gazi seal a 35-run win over Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club yesterday at BKSP-3 ground.
While Gazi made it four in four thanks to Mominul’s unbelievable innings, Ziaur Rahman’s onslaught snapped Abahani’s winning-streak as Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club clinched a six-wicket victory at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium.
At BKSP-3 in the rain-curtailed match, Legends of Rupganj toiled hard on their way to secure a three-wicket victory over Kalabagan Krira Chakra.
It was the last round of the league for the national players before they headed for Sussex to have a practice camp for the tri-nation series in Ireland and ICC Champions Trophy in England.
The Bangladesh team however left the country for London at the early hour (1am) of Thursday.
Gazi Group vs Doleshwar
Mominul hogged the headline hammering the Prime Doleshwar bowlers in an unwavering resolve but the contribution of skipper Nasir Hossain was also noteworthy. Nasir made 64 before claiming three for 40 in bowling to complement Mominul’s career best knock.
Mominul’s innings, studded by 16 fours and six sixes, steered Gazi Group to 307 before they were all out in 48.2 overs. Prime Doleshwar however were restricted to 272 for nine in 50 overs.
With the openers—Anamul Haque and Jahurul Islam departed inside five overs, leaving the scoreboard nine for two, no one could imagine in their wildest dream that Gazi could take the score past 300. But Mominul made the impossible to a possible one.
Sharing 153-run with Nasir for the third wicket, he not only stopped the rot, but also paved a solid platform.
Then he shared 101-run with Indian recruit Parvej Rasool to indicate Gazi could bury Prime under huge runs. However Mominul’s departure sparked a sensational collapse as Gazi lost seven wickets for just 34 runs.
Parvej Rasool’s presence amidst the collapse actually helped Gazi to go past 300. Rasool’s 53 came off 54 with three sixes.
Mominul was watchful in the first half of the innings. His
fifty came off 64 balls and then he brought up his century off 89 balls. When Farhad Reza got the better of Mominul, he finally played 120 balls to score 152.
Doleshwar also lost wickets initially which dented their chance. Afghan recruit Samiullah Shenwari and Jaker Ali made two fifty plus knock to give a glimmer of hope but their departure in the space of 11 runs made it sure that the match will be a mismatch. Shenwari hit 55 while Jaker made 52.
Abahani vs Sheikh Jamal
Two sixty plus knock from opener Liton Das and skipper Mahmudullah Riyad helped Abahani pile up 269 before being all out in 50 overs. But it was not enough as Ziaur came up with his ruthless best to guide his side to the home with two overs to spare.
Ziaur’s 57 ball-71 was constructed with three fours and six sixes. Opener Fazle Mahmud made 63 before being retired hurt while Indian recruit Prashant Chopra contributed with 57 lay a base for Ziaur’s onslaught.
For Abahani, Liton smacked three fours and to six to hit 62 off 82 and Riyad also made identical score but he played 66 balls and hit two fours and three sixes. Shuvagat Hom with 27 ball-32 was the other notable scorer. Tanbir Hayder took four for 45 for Sheikh Jamal.
Rupganj vs Kalabagan
In a match, reduced to 27 overs, Mehrab Hossain Junior carried the bat throughout the innings to score 79 off 81 with five fours and one six as Kalabagan scored 176 for eight.
Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, Mohammad Sharif and Mosharraf Hossain Rubel bagged two wickets apiece. No one from the Rupganj even could hit a half-century with the highest 44 came from skipper Mushfiqur Rahim. Rupganj kept losing wickets until Mushfiqur gave the innings a solidarity. Before being out, he took the side on the verge of the victory. Rupganj finally sealed the deal with two balls to spare.
