Burger King, the globally famous fast food chain with its iconic flame grilled ‘Whopper’ sandwich, has grabbed foodies’ attention in Bangladesh.
And the credit goes to Tiffin Box Ltd for successfully bringing Burger King Corporation (brand) as a franchise associate for the first time in Bangladesh.
The head of commercial operations of Tiffin Box Ltd, Mushroof Ahmed, told The Independent: “Whopper is our flagship burger, and the brand itself portrays four colours, such as green, red, brown and gold.”
Explaining the unique meaning behind the colour pattern, Mushroof said green represented lettuce leaves, red was for tomato, brown resembled the burger patty, and gold resembled the burger bun.
Mushroof said all the ingredients except the bun for the burger were imported from abroad. “At present, we are sourcing the bun locally,” he added. As for the outlets, he informed: “We have strictly maintained certain rules and guidelines of Burger King Brand pertaining to the furniture for restaurant décor, design, logo, food ingredients, kitchen machinery and equipment.”
The Tiffin Box Ltd official said developing the infrastructure of an international brand or chain shop was the biggest challenge in Bangladesh because every single thing had to be impeccable as per the brand’s guidelines. “Our kitchen is completely transparent and easily visible from the counter, so that people can easily get connected with our culture of hygiene and high standards,” he said. On the affordability of the products, he said, “The price entirely depends on the quality and we don’t compromise even a little bit on this front. So if you look at our basic beef burger, it starts at an affordable price of Tk. 189.”
The head of restaurant operations of Tiffin Box, Kazi Tanvir Akhter, said the brand’s signature ‘Whopper’ sandwich was a concoction of juicy 1/4th lb flame-grilled beef, fresh tomatoes, lettuce, onions, pickles, creamy mayonnaise and tangy ketchup sandwiched between a soft sesame seed bun. The Whopper comes in two variations—Double Whopper and Whopper Jr.
Akhter also said, “Just to cook the Whopper burger, we use a grilling machine in order to maintain the temperature. This absorbs the heat of the burger and has no effect on the quality.”
“We provide all types of technological equipment and train our employees accordingly so as to ensure quality products for our customers,” he added. Burger King Bangladesh started operations in December 2016, and since then it has opened four outlets at Banani, Bashundhara, Uttara and Dhanmondi in Dhaka. Two more outlets are going to be added soon.
“Burger King Bangladesh would also start an online delivery service in Dhaka within this year,” Akhter added.
Marketing executive of Tiffin Box, Nurunnabi, said, “To maintain the exact global standards and quality, we import the meat from Malaysia.”
“Bangladesh being a Muslim country, we ensure that all the imported products are halal food,” he added.
Talking about the product line, Nurunnabi said Burger King has plans to come up with new products every year. “Ramadan is coming and so new offerings are going to be added to the menu,” he said.
According to Tiffin Box officials, Burger King Brand was founded in 1954, and it is the second largest fast food chain in the world.
The original ‘Home of the Whopper’, Burger King operates in more than 15,000 locations in more than 100 countries and US territories.
Almost 100 per cent of Burger King Restaurants are owned and operated by independent franchisees, many of them family-owned operations that have been in business for decades.
The Burger King Brand is owned by restaurant brands International Inc. It is one of the world’s largest quick service restaurant companies with more than USD 24 billion in system sales and over 19,000 restaurants.
