‘Use modern fish farming tech’

Public representatives and experts concerned urged the fish farmers to use modern fish farming technologies for boosting yield to mitigate the society’s nutritional deficiency, reports BSS.
They stressed the need for enhancing fish farming through the best use of modern technologies and existing natural resources. Enhanced fish production can be the effective means of meeting the gradually increasing protein demands coupled with poverty alleviation and employment generation, they added.
They were addressing a field-day discussion styled “Demonstration Activities of Fish Farming Technology Services Expansion” beside a projection pond at Dhurail village under Mohanpur upazila of the district recently.
Upazila fisheries office under its ‘Union Level Fisheries Technology Services Expansion Project’ organised the discussion.
Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer Dr Amimul Ehsan addressed the meeting as focal person.
Taking part in the discussion, farmers Delwar Hossain and Nure Alam gave an overview of their significant fish farming success after the best uses of modern technologies.
Upazila Parishad Chairman Abdus Samad and Dhurail UP Chairman Kazem Uddin addressed the meeting as chief and special guests respectively.
Narrating the salient features of the project, Dr Amimul Ehsan said the ultimate goal of the project is to expand the modern fish farming technology to the union level for generating income for the rural communities and eradicating poverty through boosting fish yield in all ponds.
Dr Ehsan said the project has provisions of inspiring the farmers, providing them with latest scientific technologies and educating them in producing quality fish fries and fingerlings so that they cultivate fish more.
He called for involving more people in the fish farming activities for the sake of meeting the protein demands as only fish fulfills at least 60 per cent need of the animal protein especially of the poor and marginal communities.
Referring to the immense prospect of the fisheries sector, he said fish production could easily be increased to a great extent if the updated technologies were utilized properly. 
Necessary measures were taken to mitigate all the existing problems being faced the fish farmers to attain the cherished goal of furthermore increasing fish production.
“We are pledged bound to safe fish farming besides promoting production through the best use of existing natural resources,” Dr Ehsan added.
